The announcement of cancellation or postponement of music festivals in multiple regions has sparked heated discussions

2024-04-11

Recently, multiple music festivals in China have announced postponements, sparking heated discussions. Many of them are "one-time" music festivals, but there are also well-established music festivals, such as the Midi Music Festival originally scheduled to be held on April 12th at Feilong Lake in Taizhou, which has been announced to be postponed. Industry insiders believe that in addition to the existing "force majeure" factors, it is also attributed to the "one-time" music festival's neglect of cultural connotations and long-term development in the pursuit of short-term economic benefits, resulting in a serious decline in overall quality. At the same time, the contradiction between high ticket prices and low experience has become increasingly serious, causing many consumers to question the value and significance of music festivals. Multiple music festivals have been postponed or cancelled, affecting the old brand Midi. Starting from 2023, the music festival market has shown an unprecedented prosperity, becoming a powerful tool for cultural and tourism promotion in various regions. The "2023 China National Performance Market Development Briefing" released by the China Performance Industry Association on March 20 revealed that in 2023, there were 5600 performances at large and medium-sized concerts and music festivals with over 2000 people, an increase of 100.36% year-on-year from 2019; The box office revenue was 201.71 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 373.60% compared to 2019; The number of viewers was 35.5188 million, an increase of 208.50% year-on-year from 2019. At the same time, the sinking effect of concerts and music festivals in 2023 has become prominent, with an increasing proportion held in third - and fourth tier cities, becoming an important force in driving cross city performances and promoting local cultural and tourism consumption. After prosperity, drawbacks and problems have also emerged - recently, many music festivals in various regions have announced cancellations or postponements under the pretext of force majeure. According to incomplete statistics, there were over 50 officially announced music festivals across the country from March to May this year. According to a reporter from Beijing Youth Daily, at least 10 music festivals have announced postponements or even cancellations, accounting for nearly one-fifth. These postponed or cancelled music festivals include the "Yongchuan Yungu Music Festival" originally scheduled to be held on March 30, the "Oxygen Music Season · Spring Festival" music festival originally scheduled to be held in Daren Village, Jiangbei, from March 30 to 31, the "Xingchao Mysterious Land Music Festival" held in Guangzhou Haixinsha Asian Games Park from March 30 to 31, the "Taizhou Feilong Lake Music Festival" originally scheduled to be held from April 12 to 14, the Xingchao Mysterious Land Music Festival originally scheduled to be held in Wenzhou from April 13 to 14, the "Haichao Cosmic Music Festival" held in Foshan, the Guangzhou Cultural Music Festival held in Guangzhou, and the Guangzhou Cultural Music Festival originally scheduled to be held on April 19 Wuxi the Taihu Lake Jiuzong Bay Music Festival will be held on the 21st. The postponement or cancellation of music festivals may even affect old brands. As many music fans are familiar with, the Taizhou Feilong Lake Midi Music Festival, which was originally scheduled to be held on April 12th, has recently been announced to be postponed; The 2024 Dawuyi Midi Music Festival, which has been officially announced to be held in Fujian from May 2nd to 4th, is still uncertain whether it will be held as scheduled. The relevant operators stated that due to some reasons, they are still evaluating whether they have the conditions to hold the Midi Music Festival and are currently striving to hold it as scheduled. There will be news within this week. The music festival market highlights issues such as hasty coordination, and the "April Day of the World" has just begun, with nearly ten music festivals being held one after another
