New energy vehicles from the Yangtze River Delta jointly embark on a "new route" to sea

2024-04-08

More than 40% of new energy vehicles in the country are produced in the Yangtze River Delta region. The Yangtze River Delta starts from Lianyungang in Jiangsu Province in the north and extends to Wenzhou in Zhejiang Province in the south. The deep-water ports connecting the Yangtze River and the sea form a network: Lianyungang Port, Shanghai Port, Ningbo Zhoushan Port... In April of this year, the port terminals began a "spring busy" mode. The China Europe freight train has achieved sea rail intermodal transportation, and the process of new energy vehicles going overseas has accelerated, becoming a new growth point for the Yangtze River Delta and even China's economy. On April 1st, a huge roll on/roll off ship was moored and ready at Lianyungang Port. After 16 hours of operation, 2408 SAIC MG new cars arrived at Lianyungang Port via the Longhai Railway and will sail by water towards the port of Lazaro Cardenas in Mexico. "From an aerial perspective, the dock of Dongfang Port Branch of Lianyungang Port is seamlessly connected to the railway Longhai Line." Shang Feng, the person in charge of SAIC Anji Logistics stationed at Lianyungang Port, said that the railway and dock here are only 50 meters away, with efficient operations and rich international routes, which can greatly reduce the domestic transportation costs of enterprises. The transportation network composed of domestic highways and railways can well connect multiple factories of SAIC passenger cars. In recent years, the Chinese automotive market has rapidly transitioned towards new energy, and SAIC Group's new energy vehicles have seized the opportunity to go global. In 2023, overseas market sales reached 1.208 million units, a year-on-year increase of 18.8%. Among them, MG MG's global annual sales exceed 800000 vehicles. Shang Feng said that there are still many uncertainties in the international market this year, but the momentum of China's new energy vehicle industry's overseas competition has emerged. MG MG has customized multiple new models of pure electric and hybrid according to the needs of overseas customers, which can not only meet green and environmental protection needs, but also better adapt to overseas application scenarios. Currently, it is "fully equipped and ready for deployment". The "going global" of new energy vehicles is not just about taking sea routes. With the support of the China Europe freight train that runs through the Eurasian continent, many second-hand new energy vehicles from the Chinese market have become popular in Central Asia and even Europe. "Chinese cars are becoming increasingly popular in some overseas countries due to their advantages in electrification and intelligence. Second hand cars not only comply with the laws and regulations of many countries, but also have advantages in export prices." said Ge Heng, General Manager of Lianyungang Zhongha International Logistics Co., Ltd., as the export of second-hand new energy vehicles is ushering in a "spring". "The railway transportation environment is stable and the route is stable, which is not easy to cause damage to new energy vehicles and is more favored by customers." Qian Youwen, General Manager of the International Trade Division of Sumida Complete Equipment Company, introduced that Sumida is rooted in the Yangtze River Delta, and new energy vehicles account for 60% of the used cars exported, mainly exported to Central Asia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. China's new energy vehicles are going global, riding the wind and waves with the momentum of breaking bamboo. "The automotive industry is a widely influential industry that generates a large demand for equipment such as forging, heating, welding, stamping, and mechanical processing, which plays an important role in promoting the development of related industries. Xiong Binqian, Director of the Industrial Transformation and Upgrading Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, said that China's automotive industry can make breakthroughs outward and seek broader demand space, which can provide significant assistance to China's economic growth and is expected to become a new growth point for the Chinese economy.".
