A device weighing less than 1 kilogram and the size of a mobile phone, installed on a power transmission line, can easily monitor the environmental conditions within a nearby 500 meter range and transmit real-time data, greatly reducing the labor intensity of personnel going out for inspection and reducing manual operation and maintenance costs. On the 23rd, the reporter learned from State Grid Shanxi Information and Communication Company that a new communication technology for power transmission scenarios recently released by the company has achieved a breakthrough. Traditional transmission line operation and maintenance mainly rely on manual inspection and inspection, which is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but also low in work efficiency. When encountering remote mountainous areas or places where personnel cannot reach, there will be management gaps. In recent years, with the advancement of technology, automated inspection technologies such as drones and line robots have been widely used. However, there still exist practical problems such as periodic inspections, inability to conduct real-time monitoring, high communication network requirements, and the need to control and transmit a large amount of inspection data for drones and line robots. In order to achieve real-time monitoring of the surrounding environment of transmission lines, especially to solve the prominent problems of difficult coverage of communication signals and data transmission in remote areas and urban cable trenches, in 2023, State Grid Shanxi Information and Communication Company responded to the requirements of developing new quality productivity and organized an innovative team of experts to carry out targeted scientific research and research. The staff relied on the high-speed, high capacity, high reliability, and low latency capabilities of 5G networks, combined with the advantages of independent control, flexible networking, low operating costs, long standby time, and good signal coverage of low-power wide area Internet of Things (LPWAN) medium and long-distance radios, to carry out research on the joint networking technology of 5G and LPWAN IoT, and successfully launched this new communication technology for power transmission scenarios. The technology device has achieved significant results after being installed and tested in cable trenches and transmission lines in remote suburban areas in Taiyuan, Xinzhou, and other places. This not only achieves real-time monitoring of environmental data such as temperature and humidity, smoke sensing, icing, and harmful gases in power lines in blind spots of public network signals, but also accurately locates the location of power line faults caused by disasters such as fire, water accumulation, and icing within a 500 meter range. The duration of power line fault location is shortened from 1 day to 3 minutes, greatly improving the speed of fault detection and disposal. Since July 2023, a total of 58 line faults have been resolved. Hu Wei, a staff member of State Grid Xinzhou Communication Company who tried the technology device, introduced that after installing the environmental monitoring device for the line, cable and line operation and maintenance personnel only need to use the relevant data monitoring platform to real-time grasp the environmental conditions near each line, greatly reducing the labor intensity and safety risks of personnel going to the site for inspection. This technological device also has a significant advantage. It uses a button battery weighing less than 10 grams as the working power source, which is conservatively estimated to work continuously for 3 to 5 years each time, and is easy to install and replace. Experts have calculated that if the technology device is mass-produced and promoted, the production cost of each piece is about 1000 yuan. According to the installation of a cable trench every 300 meters, the cost per kilometer is less than 4000 yuan. A city with 1000 kilometers of cable trenches can liberate most workers from heavy and harsh working environments with an investment of 4 million yuan, thus having significant promotion and application value.
