With intelligent and digital technology, they can monitor and Every move on the remote-controlled propane dehydrogenation (PDH) production line. This PDH intelligent factory, jointly built by its parent company Shenghong Petrochemical Industry Group (hereinafter referred to as Shenghong Petrochemical) and Honeywell Corporation in the United States, has reduced manual operation frequency of the PDH device by more than 50% and increased the device's self-control rate to over 95% since its operation at the end of 2022. "Currently, the petrochemical industry is facing unprecedented challenges. The rapid changes in the market and the proposal of the 'dual carbon' goal have also raised higher requirements for the industry. In this context, digital transformation has become a key means for enterprises to improve production efficiency, enhance profitability, and respond to market challenges." said Bai Wei, President of Shenghong Petrochemical. The PDH project for improving process stability through intelligent production and digital operations has been a hot investment topic in China's petrochemical industry in recent years. According to relevant data, in 2022, the new production capacity of China's propylene industry will be mainly contributed by the PDH process, which has become the second largest mainstream propylene production process after steam cracking. For the PDH industry, high-quality development should be achieved from two dimensions: process innovation and improvement, and digital technology application. Since 2021, Shenghong Petrochemical has been conducting research and development on intelligent production and digital operations around the PDH device. Nowadays, in the central control room of the PDH intelligent factory, each operator can monitor the continuous chemical reactions in various equipment in the production area through the 4K high-definition display screen in front of them. Liu Ruirui, the project leader and process engineer of the digitalization project of the PDH device at Serbang Petrochemical, pointed to a display screen and said that taking the advanced control system of the deethanizer tower as an example, during the process of generating propylene, propane, propylene, and ethane liquids will be mixed into the deethanizer tower for separation. They need to be controlled within a certain range of pressure, temperature, and flow rate in order to remove ethane and enter the next production process. During this process, any parameter error can bring safety hazards or product quality issues, so they installed sensors in the deethanizer unit of the PDH device. Sensors will monitor the flow, pressure, temperature, liquid level, and other data of various instruments within the unit, and automatically adjust according to the set production indicators. Once the actual operating condition of the device deviates from the set range, the sensor will issue a prompt through the intelligent alarm system. Liu Ruirui introduced that after adopting this system, the average daily alarm volume of the PDH device decreased by 90%, the disturbance alarm volume decreased by 80%, and the transient alarm volume decreased by more than 90%. At the same time, device management personnel can quickly and in real-time understand the operating status of the entire plant's devices online in the office, identify frequent alarms and events, and make timely adjustments and optimizations.
