2024-02-28

The Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Li Jiachao, recently stated that actual data shows that both local and foreign enterprises have confidence in Hong Kong. During a meeting with the media on the 26th, Li Jiachao stated that data on foreign companies investing in Hong Kong showed that Hong Kong was ranked first in the global investment environment last year, with the company's operating environment ranking first in the Asia Pacific region and second globally. According to an independent report, in 2022, Hong Kong is the world's fourth largest economy in terms of foreign direct investment inflows. At the end of last year, Hong Kong's total savings exceeded HKD 16 trillion, an increase of approximately 5.1% year-on-year. Last year, the number of startups in Hong Kong increased by over 270 compared to 2022, reaching a historic high of nearly 4300. Li Jiachao said that in 2023, overseas and mainland enterprises established or expanded their businesses in Hong Kong through the Investment Promotion Department of the Special Administrative Region Government saw a significant increase of 27% compared to the previous year's 300 companies; Among them, companies from the UK increased by 40%, companies from Singapore increased by 30%, and companies from the United States also increased by over 10%. These companies have invested over HKD 61.6 billion in Hong Kong, nearly three times the figure from the previous year. These numbers indicate that both local and foreign companies have confidence in Hong Kong. Li Jiachao said that in fact, Hong Kong has a solid institutional foundation and core advantages. Hong Kong is at the forefront of professional services in finance, commerce, shipping, and other fields in the world. It is also the only common law jurisdiction in the country, with its own legal system and independent judicial and final adjudication powers. This enables Hong Kong to fully connect with other major international business communities in terms of legal system, serving as a bridge between the mainland and the world as a "super contact" and "super value-added person". "Hong Kong will uphold its status as an international city, continue to leverage the advantages of international cities, and seize the unique advantages of relying on the motherland and connecting with the world under the 'One Country, Two Systems' policy," said Li Jiachao.
