China Consumer Association: Accelerating the Release of Holiday Consumption Vitality

2024-02-27

On the 26th, the China Consumers Association released a public opinion analysis report on consumer rights protection during the 2024 Spring Festival. The report shows that from February 9th to February 18th, there was a high level of enthusiasm for rights protection in areas such as transportation, scenic spot tourism, cultural and entertainment, and consumer services; In the new year, the public's confidence, willingness, and ability to consume have significantly improved. The 2024 Spring Festival holiday lasted for a total of 8 days, with 2.293 billion people moving across regions, demonstrating the vitality and resilience of the holiday economy, and accelerating the release of consumer vitality. Returning home and reuniting before taking a family trip has become a new trend for holidays, with significant growth in holiday consumption such as traditional Chinese tours, ice and snow tours, and island tours. The rich cultural and tourism activities in various regions have driven up consumption, with 5108 large-scale events such as the Spring Festival Lantern Festival, Flower Market, Temple Fair, Dragon and Lion Dance. During the Spring Festival, consumers' "roast" mainly focus on transportation, scenic spot tourism, culture and entertainment, consumer services, etc. The China Consumers Association pointed out that the contradiction between supply and demand during the Spring Festival holiday remains the core of many public opinion issues. On the one hand, existing services are unable to meet the strong demand of consumers, and behind the record high tourism consumption, problems such as traffic congestion and insufficient scenic spot capacity are becoming increasingly prominent; On the other hand, the inherent concepts of management and service urgently need to be broken, service awareness needs to be improved, and consumer tolerance for overbearing clauses, industry norms, and other factors further decreases. The China Consumers Association suggests that all regions and departments should prioritize the restoration and expansion of consumption, ensuring timely adjustment and scheduling of resources during peak periods such as the Spring Festival, in order to alleviate the many pressures brought about by supply-demand contradictions. At the same time, we will effectively crack down on illegal and irregular behaviors such as bullying, forced consumption, and false advertising in key consumer venues, and eliminate the "stubborn diseases". Provide targeted training to key service groups such as travel agencies, tour guides, drivers, merchants, hotels, etc., and urge them to adhere to the bottom line of integrity. In the face of consumer complaints, it is necessary to have smooth channels for handling and compensating immediately, and quickly resolve consumer disputes. Faced with transportation capacity bottlenecks and scenic spot congestion, tourism planning should be carried out in advance to guide tourists to disperse their tourist destinations and avoid overcrowding of popular scenic spots and routes.
