In February 2019, the Outline of the Development Plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area was publicly released, clearly proposing the construction of an international science and technology innovation center. In the past five years since the implementation of the Outline, the scientific and technological cooperation among Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao has been deepening, and the flow of scientific and technological elements such as data, funds, and talents has accelerated. The scientific and technological innovation strength and attractiveness of the Greater Bay Area have continued to strengthen. The establishment of Shenzhen Academy of Medical Sciences is a reflection of the increasing attraction of the Greater Bay Area to scientific and technological talents, and also a microcosm of the accelerated development of China's science and technology innovation highland in the Greater Bay Area. In Guangming District, where the Shenzhen Academy of Medical Sciences is located, Shenzhen is making every effort to promote the construction of the Guangming Science City, focusing on three disciplines: information, life, and new materials. At present, the synthetic biology major scientific device is operating smoothly here, and the construction of over 20 major scientific and technological innovation carriers is rolling forward. More than 20 academician teams and over 5400 scientific research talents from Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao are continuously accelerating innovation. To the north of Guangming Science City, China Spallation Neutron Source, Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory, Guangzhou Nansha Science City, and others are forming clusters; To the south of Guangming Science City, the University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, and the Chinese University of Hong Kong have accumulated a wealth of old and powerful forces. In the view of Ye Yuru, the President of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong has strong research capabilities and an international financial center position, while the nine cities in the Greater Bay Area, such as Shenzhen and Guangzhou, have a sound industrial system and complete industrial chain, and are connected to a wide mainland market. The advantages of Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao in science and technology innovation complement each other, which can integrate national and even global science and technology resources and build a world-class science and technology innovation ecosystem. On February 4th this year, the Shenzhen Industrial Park of the Hetao Shenzhen Hong Kong Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Zone between Shenzhen and Hong Kong officially put into operation the first high-quality "Bauhinia" type power supply wiring constructed by the Shenzhen Power Supply Bureau of Southern Power Grid, meeting the extremely high requirements of high-tech enterprises, research institutions, laboratories, etc. for power supply reliability, continuity, and stability.
