On February 5th local time, the second two-day Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Ethics Forum was held in Krani, Slovenia. This event is supported and sponsored by UNESCO and hosted by the Slovenian Ministry of Digital Transformation. On the 5th, UNESCO announced that eight global scientific and technological institutions and companies have signed an agreement related to artificial intelligence (AI) with UNESCO at this forum. According to relevant agreements, these institutions and companies will design and use AI systems in conjunction with the values and principles related to AI ethics in the UNESCO Recommendation on Ethical Issues in Artificial Intelligence. This is the first time a private enterprise has collaborated with the United Nations in the field of AI. The agreement stipulates that in order to comply with safety standards and identify the adverse effects of AI, due diligence must be conducted and timely measures must be taken to prevent, mitigate or correct these effects, making them comply with the laws of various countries. The protocol also emphasizes the importance of early testing. However, given the rapid development of existing AI systems in the market, the agreement also calls for the development of later risk assessment and risk control measures. These eight global technology institutions and companies are Global Society for Mobile Communications Systems (GSMA), INNIT, Lenovo, LG AI Research, Microsoft, Motorola, SF Express, and Telekom Spain. UNESCO Director General Azoule stated that multiple global technology companies have made specific commitments on relevant issues. She strongly calls on all technology stakeholders to follow their example, stating that this is crucial for building AI that promotes the public interest. In November 2021, UNESCO passed the Recommendation on Ethical Issues in Artificial Intelligence, marking its first global agreement on ethical issues in artificial intelligence. In the past two years, substantial progress has been made in the implementation of this framework. Nowadays, more than 50 countries actively participate, and related multilateral cooperation has significantly increased.
