2024-02-06

The rock painting journalist Guo Junfeng captured portraits of human faces, nebulae, four seasons, hunting, etc. In the southeast of Haibowan District, Wuhai City, Inner Mongolia, there are connected table mountains and valleys. On the cliffs and gentle slopes of about 75 kilometers long, there are carved "calligraphy without words" written by our ancestors. The simple and simple lines create a picture that inspires people's infinite imagination of ancient times. Recently, the reporter walked into the Zhaoshaogou Rock Painting Site Museum, which was built on natural rocks, and up close watched the batch of rock paintings engraved on the slope. The richness of the content of the rock paintings is amazing. The Table Mountain Rock Painting Group is located on the cliffs and limestone rocks of the Table Mountain Gully at the junction of Etuoke Banner and Wuhai City in Ordos. These rock paintings mainly depict human faces, animals, hunting, dance, knights, symbols, and other content. Some rock paintings are painted separately, while others are composed of multiple images, telling unique prehistoric stories. "As a typical cultural relic in the northern region, the Zhaoshaogou rock paintings on Table Mountain silently record the lives of our ancestors." Zhang Rui, an interpreter at the Wuhai Museum, said, "The Zhaoshaogou rock paintings are the essence of the Table Mountain rock painting group, and the 'Sun God' rock painting is well-known in the rock painting industry and has become a classic cultural symbol." In 2013, the Table Mountain rock painting group was announced by the State Council as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units. The Zhaoshaogou rock paintings have deeply attracted a group of cultural researchers due to their unique geographical location, composition, carving techniques, and historical origins. "Rock painting is the oldest form of painting, which, before the birth of writing, used carved images to 'narrate' and 'reproduce' ancient human life, hiding information from ancient times. These artistic treasures depicted millions of years ago have important value for studying China's social and cultural forms, the origin of painting art, and even exploring the childhood of human civilization." Sun Di, Vice Dean of the School of Fine Arts at Capital Normal University, introduced that so far, Prehistoric rock paintings have been discovered in multiple countries and regions around the world, and China is one of the countries with the richest rock painting heritage resources in the world. "Even today, there are still herdsmen in the northwest mountainous areas who use tools to carve and record their lives and beliefs on the mountain walls." Sun Di said that today's rock painting art is full of new vitality, and rock painting research requires interdisciplinary research and in-depth exploration from archaeology, anthropology, art, ecology, and other disciplines. The cultural value of rock painting also needs to be further explored, revealed, protected, and utilized. "At present, the Zhaoshaogou Rock Painting Site Museum has more than 300 individual rock paintings, which have high cultural value and provide us with historical evidence for exploring the process of human civilization. The Wuhai Museum is actively promoting the protection and promotion of cultural relics of Zhaoshaogou rock paintings." Zhang Yinzhou, the director of the Wuhai Museum, said that while ensuring the safety of cultural relics, we will make full use of cultural resources, excavate relics, and... " The cultural value of the site brings cultural relics to life. "From 2008 to 2011, the Wuhai Municipal Government repaired and protected the relevant facilities of the Zhaoshaogou Rock Paintings three times, achieving centralized and contiguous protection of the rock paintings. In recent years, the development, utilization, and protection of the Zhaoshaogou Rock Paintings Site area have also been continuously promoted," Zhang Yinzhou said
