2024-02-04

The play "Frontier" tells the story of five young writers from different backgrounds and experiences, Rou Shi, Hu Yebin, Li Weisen, Feng Keng, and Yin Fu, who uphold their beliefs, use their pens as guns, continue to fight, and dedicate their youthful passion in a white and terrifying environment. Two years ago, it attracted a lot of attention when it premiered in Shanghai, and since then it has received widespread praise during tours throughout the country, becoming an important phenomenon in the creation of related themes. There are many historical materials and literary creations about the "Five Martyrs of the Left Alliance" in the stills and images of the play "Frontline". In recent years, Shanghai alone has seen plays such as "Wave" and "Early Spring", and most of them consciously choose to break away from the traditional revolutionary narrative framework and use more youthful and fashionable narrative methods and stage styles to tell stories, depict characters, and elevate themes. The play "Frontline" is also included in this list, but its most important characteristic and touching reason is not limited to "portraying youth with youth" or "portraying youth with fashion". Instead, it presents a life texture, personality details, and poetic emotions with a sense of era and universal human emotions, unfolding a "life is precious, love is more valuable, and if it is for freedom, both can be discarded". The Frontier magazine is a starting point, a carrier, and a symbol, providing a rational interpretation of faith, praising the greatness of the revolutionary cause undertaken by the martyrs, and also making the audience lament the early passing of their youth. Supported by similar historical materials, stories often have similarities, but the emotions displayed in them are different. In the drama, Teacher Wang, who was mentioned among the masses but did not appear, is a scholar who has been conducting solid research on the "Left Alliance" and revolutionary literature since the early 1990s. The students need to continue the script that Teacher Wang did not complete 30 years ago, which is the play "Frontline". They found that after obtaining rich historical materials, Teacher Wang couldn't help but exclaim: What is the most likely scene to appear in this play? Dealing with spies on the streets of old Shanghai? Sing the Internationale in the eerie and terrifying prison? No, or not just that, the suspenseful atmosphere of espionage and the conventional imagination of revolutionary martyrs undergoing severe torture are just basic clues here. In this drama, Teacher Wang portrays lively young people who eagerly listen to Mr. Lu Xun's speeches, discussing woodcutting and translation; They were thrown into prison and still joked about their respective "charges", and Yin Fu even comforted everyone by saying, "I am very familiar with going to jail."; They saw the snow stop and thought about the peach blossoms that would bloom in Longhua (the famous place in Lu Xun's writings to see peach blossoms in Shanghai), still believing that "tomorrow will be a new day"; They went to Mr. Lu Xun's house to eat and drink together, and until the end, they regretted that they had not eaten Mr. Lu Xun's Sachima... Peach blossom, Longhua's peach blossom, became the most important image of the play "Outpost", implying their blood and life as clouds, and reposing endless sorrow of youth. The imagery of peach blossoms also endows the entire drama with a spiritual quality. The peach blossom imagery runs through the entire drama, from the peach blossoms brought by the scouts, to the peach blossoms talked about by Roushi and Feng Keng, to the peach blossom rain during the spring outing, and the peach blossoms resembling blood after the sacrifice of the "Five Martyrs of the Left Alliance", all interpreting this common theme of life. However, imagery does not
