Silver economy drives high-quality development of commercial long-term care insurance

2024-01-31

Commercial long-term care insurance has received policy support again. Recently, the General Office of the State Council issued the "Opinions on Developing the Silver Hair Economy and Enhancing the Welfare of the Elderly", which clearly supports the active development of commercial long-term care insurance, the pilot work of responsibility conversion between life insurance and long-term care insurance, and the strengthening of the research and development of pension financial products and the connection with health, pension care and other services. The latest data from the National Medical Insurance Administration shows that currently, the number of participants in China's long-term care insurance (referred to as "long-term care insurance") system exceeds 176 million, with a total of over 2.25 million disabled individuals enjoying benefits and an annual average reduction of about 14000 yuan in burden per person. Industry experts interviewed by Xinhua Health from Economic Reference Daily believe that in the context of the continuous release of the silver economy dividend, commercial long-term care insurance, which is an important part of China's long-term care insurance system, is also driving high-quality development. Diversified products and services should be developed around the care needs of disabled individuals to support the development of the elderly care industry. "I've been worried that one day I might fall, but what should I do? Now that we've caught up with the good policies of the country, the government has come to help us, it's really great!" Aunt Zhang, who lives in a certain community in Bajiao Street, Shijingshan District, Beijing, said excitedly with tears in her eyes. The heartwarming policy of long-term care insurance has solved the nursing problem of her spouse. The reporter learned that Aunt Zhang's wife, Uncle Liu, is a severely disabled person. In 2016, due to the sequelae of cerebral hemorrhage leading to disability, I applied for and passed the disability assessment expert assessment for long-term care insurance in May 2018. I began to enjoy long-term care insurance services in June. The elderly couple's combined retirement pension is less than 7000 yuan, and their daily expenses are high. The remaining expenses cannot afford to hire a nanny or stay in a nursing home, which is difficult for Aunt Zhang. It is reported that since Shijingshan District in Beijing was approved as the second batch of national pilot programs for long-term care insurance in 2020, it has provided three types of nursing services: institutional care, institutional home care, and home care. The staff of the long-term care insurance commercial insurance agency (Love Life) helped Uncle Liu recommend several cost-effective nursing homes for the elderly to choose from in designated nursing institutions. When Aunt Zhang learned that an individual can live in a nursing home for 3000 to 4000 yuan per month, and that there is a commercial insurance agency (Love Life) providing full service supervision for nursing services, she finally felt at ease. Long term care insurance is known as the "sixth insurance" in addition to the five social insurances of elderly care, medical care, work-related injury, unemployment, and childbirth. It aims to provide basic living care and closely related medical care for disabled individuals, in order to reduce the burden of family care costs for disabled individuals. Since 2016, China has organized 15 cities to launch pilot programs for long-term care insurance, which have now expanded to 49 cities. Each pilot city is exploring the establishment of a sound care system for disabled elderly people in various aspects. Since the pilot implementation of the long-term care insurance system in multiple regions of China, it has effectively solved the "pain points" of disabled individuals in terms of care and other aspects. With the intensification of China's aging population, the long-term care insurance system has become an increasingly urgent social demand, and commercial long-term care insurance is an important part of China's rich development of pension financial products. At Love Life Insurance Co., Ltd., the reporter learned that the company's long-term care insurance pilot project has been completed
