2024-01-08

Indonesia is the pioneer of jointly building the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. With the in-depth development of the "the Belt and Road", China has become Indonesia's largest trading partner for 10 consecutive years, and the two countries have built a strong and solid strategic cooperative relationship. In the long history of communication between China and Indonesia, China's rapid development and unique cultural charm have deeply attracted a large number of Indonesian youth and encouraged them to embark on the path of studying in China. Two years ago, Clear Odelia (Chinese name: Su Baoping) from Jakarta, Indonesia, chose to study Business Chinese at a university in China with an interest in the field of commerce and a longing for Chinese culture. Through personal contact with Chinese cities and close interactions with Chinese friends, Su Baoping developed a strong sense of belonging to China and a new understanding of the cooperation and development between China and Indonesia. She believes that the experience of studying in China will paint a vivid "Chinese red" on her life. Clear Odelia (Su Baoping, right) and Anna Giada D'Angelo (Italy, left), an intern journalist at the International News Center of Xinhua News Agency (pictured/Xinhua News Agency), traveled to the land of China to make an appointment with China, which is not unfamiliar to Su Baoping. Indonesia is the country with the largest number of overseas Chinese, with a vast Chinese community. Many Chinese have businesses and investment projects in Indonesia, which play an indispensable role in the local economic development. At the same time, many Indonesian Chinese families also maintain the traditional custom of celebrating Chinese Festival: during the Spring Festival, people will go to Chinatown to buy New Year's goods and watch lion dances, and the adults at home will also give red envelopes to the children; During the Mid-Autumn Festival, family members gather to eat moon cakes and enjoy the moon... In terms of social economy, with the development of China Indonesia relations and the promotion of the "the Belt and Road" initiative, China's influence in Indonesia is growing day by day; In terms of diet and customs, the cultures of the two countries are intertwined in Indonesia, forming beautiful and unique cultural landscapes. Growing up in a family with a strong Chinese cultural atmosphere, Su Baoping had a strong interest in China's customs and culture, and particularly liked "Chinese red". "Red has profound meaning in China, representing luck and happiness. I really like it." Not only that, but she also made an early decision to study abroad in China, study Chinese well, and experience the people and things in this vast land. Su Baoping spent the Spring Festival with his family. Even though he had already done his homework and gained some understanding of China, at the beginning of his visit to China, Su Baoping was worried that she might not adapt well to studying abroad - his Chinese was not yet fluent, and he always had to include foreign language words in conversations. She still remembers the first time she tried to buy lemon tea, and was nervous when she struggled to communicate with the salesperson in Chinese. "I wanted the salesperson to recommend a drink to me, but it didn't quite convey my meaning. Fortunately, the other person understood my embarrassment and smiled, telling me not to worry, he would provide me with the best drink in the store." Although this was a small episode when she first came to China, the sweet and human touch of that cup of lemon tea still lingers on her mind today.
