The "Xuelong 2" oceanic team conducted its first survey operation

2023-12-29

On the 28th Beijing time, China's 40th Antarctic expedition, the "Xuelong 2" oceanic team, began deploying abandoned temperature and salinity depth sensors in the westerly zone to conduct hydrological and environmental surveys. This is also the first time that the oceanic team has conducted an investigation operation. Peng Tengteng, the expedition team member responsible for this task, introduced that the hydrological environment survey mainly obtains data on ocean temperature, conductivity, and depth along the route, which can supplement and improve the water environment related data in China's key section survey in the Antarctic Ocean, and provide basic data for research on the Antarctic Ocean and global climate change. Chen Chao, the captain of the "Xuelong 2" oceanic team, stated that the smooth start of the operation laid a solid foundation for oceanic operations. With the preparations for the ocean operation ready, in addition to the navigation task, the comprehensive investigation task will also begin. The 40th Antarctic Expedition of China was organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources. After completing the initial support mission for the Ross Sea new station, the "Snow Dragon 2" recently loaded its members from the ocean and was heading to the Amundsen Sea for investigation operations.
