The prominent role of the Internet as a hub for basic resources

2023-12-28

Internet basic resources refer to domain names, IP addresses, AS (Autonomous System) numbers, and the domain name system, routing, and other internet architecture systems and protocols they construct. It has played a crucial role in ensuring network connectivity, high scalability, and supporting various innovative applications. According to data released by the China Internet Network Information Center, as of June 2023, China has nearly 20 million "CN" domain names, approximately 3.83 million websites, and 1.079 billion online users; IPv6 users have exceeded 700 million, ranking first in the world in terms of scale. "The Internet industry is accelerating its efforts to add momentum to high-quality economic development, and the role of the Internet as a hub and cornerstone of basic resources is becoming more prominent," said Xu Xiaolan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology. The rapid development of network basic resources cannot be separated from the gradual improvement of the service guarantee system. "As a national top-level domain name service platform, we have built a service-oriented distributed architecture of 'two locations, three centers+global service nodes', achieving agile deployment from single machine to distributed, entity to cloud, and large capacity to lightweight. We have achieved extensive coverage of mainstream domestic operators, Internet backbone direct connection points, and the world, and the platform service availability has reached 100% for 9 consecutive years." Liu Yulin, director of the China Internet Network Information Center, introduced that in terms of ensuring network security, multiple domestic research institutions and manufacturers have independently developed DNS (Domain Name System) products, which have excellent performance in terms of functionality, performance, security, and other aspects. In addition, the National Internet Basic Resources Big Data Platform monitors all top-level domains and over a million DNS servers in real-time based on monitoring indicators in 38 major categories and 74 subcategories, providing important support for studying and analyzing the operational status and security development trends of the Internet in China and the world. The National IPv6 Monitoring Platform provides data monitoring and analysis for enterprises and governments in various aspects such as users, traffic, networks, and applications. Currently, the construction of new industrialization is steadily advancing, and new businesses such as the Internet of Vehicles and the Mobile Internet of Things have higher requirements for network continuity and low latency. Internet basic resource services need to strengthen ubiquitous mobility capabilities in various network scenarios. At the same time, in order to better support the bidirectional matching between users and the network, it is necessary to achieve integrated intelligent scheduling of multi-dimensional resources such as network, computing, and storage. "With the integration of new industrialization into more new business formats, network security risks such as data leakage, distributed denial of service attacks (DDoS), and phishing have become more severe. Building a self-healing and anti attack service system from the perspective of Internet basic resources is crucial for the stable operation of the network." Liu Yulin said that in response to the above challenges, on the one hand, we need to continuously improve the public service capabilities of Internet basic resources, strengthen the overall planning of the national domain name core system around domain name registration, resolution, query services, and other needs, continuously improve service performance and level, and consolidate the foundation of public services. On the other hand, we aim to improve the efficiency, security, and intelligence of domain name identification technologies for 5G, industrial Internet, and Internet of Things, and achieve more precise scheduling technologies in multiple dimensions, effectively addressing the interaction needs of massive devices and businesses in ubiquitous Internet scenarios; We need to conduct in-depth research on "IPv6+" technology, support comprehensive network upgrades, and meet the requirements of industrial application scenarios for interconnection
