The Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area Meteorological Research Institute (hereinafter referred to as "the Institute") was recently launched in Guangzhou, Guangdong, and the first Scientific Advisory Committee of the Institute was established. Wu Guoxiong, an academician of the CAS Member, served as the chairman of the Committee. This research institute is the first national level scientific and technological innovation platform established by the China Meteorological Administration in South China, aiming to comprehensively enhance the overall efficiency of the meteorological scientific and technological innovation system. It is reported that the research institute, with the Guangzhou Institute of Tropical Marine Meteorology under the China Meteorological Administration as its core, integrates meteorological research institutions in the Greater Bay Area, including the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Meteorological Monitoring and Early Warning Center, the Jiangmen Monsoon Heavy Precipitation Prediction Technology Innovation Center, and the Foshan Tornado Research Center; At the same time, the Tropical Meteorological Observation Experiment and Mechanism Research Center, the Tropical Regional Numerical Forecasting Key Technology Research Center, the Tropical Environmental Meteorology Research Center, and the Achievement Transformation and Academic Exchange Center have also been established. In recent years, Guangdong has made significant achievements in meteorological technology innovation. The China Meteorological Administration and the Guangdong Provincial Government have signed three rounds of memorandum of cooperation, jointly issuing a three-year action plan for the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area to continuously optimize the development environment of meteorological technology. The Pearl River Delta has achieved the goal of having meteorological research institutions in each city. In the past decade, the meteorological departments of Guangdong Province have undertaken and participated in 126 national level scientific research projects and more than 200 provincial and ministerial level scientific research projects.
