The space science satellite "Macau Science-1" has been officially put into use

2023-11-29

The reporter learned from the National Space Administration that on the 28th, the first space science satellite jointly developed by the mainland and Macau, "Macau Science 1", was put into use. As the satellite with the highest accuracy in geomagnetic field detection in China, the use of this satellite will significantly improve the level of space magnetic field detection technology in China, providing data support for geomagnetic scientific research, resource exploration, magnetic field navigation, space environment monitoring and other fields. Macao Science One adopts a joint observation mode of "A+B": A is equipped with high-precision magnetic field observation payloads, energy electron spectrometers, laser reflectors, and other payloads, with a focus on carrying out high-precision geomagnetic field measurement tasks; B satellite is equipped with payloads such as medium energy particle detectors, solar X-ray detectors, and laser reflectors, with a focus on detecting solar X-rays and energy particles in the Earth's radiation belt; A and B stars jointly observed the spatiotemporal distribution structure of high-energy particles in the anomalous area of the South Atlantic, with a designed lifespan of 5 years. It is understood that the satellite was successfully launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center on May 21, 2023. During the in orbit testing period, the satellite operated stably, with normal functions and performance, and completed all the testing items specified in the satellite engineering in orbit testing outline. The scientific data of each payload of the satellite has been self calibrated and evaluated, and compared with other satellite data and internationally recognized models to verify the functionality and performance of each payload. The satellite has successfully completed in orbit testing and is ready for use. The Macao Science 1 satellite project is jointly carried out by the National Space Administration and the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. It is reported that the "Macao Science 1" satellite is the first science and technology experimental satellite in Macau, and also the first scientific detection satellite in the world to monitor the geomagnetic field and space environment in the abnormal area of the South Atlantic. It will not only improve the level of technological innovation in Macau, but also help transform the economic and social development model of Macau, open up new models of scientific and technological cooperation between the mainland and Macau, and establish a new example of scientific and technological development in the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The National Space Administration is responsible for the organization and management of satellite engineering. The satellite system is jointly developed by China Academy of Space Technology Aerospace Dongfanghong Satellite Co., Ltd. and Northwest Polytechnical University. The scientific payload is provided by Macau University of Science and Technology, and scientific data analysis and application are jointly carried out by Macau University of Science and Technology and relevant units in mainland China. It is reported that the project encourages the open sharing and application of scientific data. In the future, through relevant data policies, it will deepen comprehensive cooperation and exchange between Macao and the mainland and the international community, fully leveraging Macao's unique location and institutional advantages. At present, the project has signed cooperative research agreements with 18 international research institutions, including the British Geological Survey, the Paris Institute of Geophysics, the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich, and the Technical University of Denmark, to help Macau build another major technological innovation platform for the world. In addition, the project will continue to promote space science research and the popularization of space knowledge among young people in Macau. (Lai Xin She)
