The 8th China Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival, co hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Sichuan Provincial People's Government, and organized by the Chengdu Municipal People's Government and the Sichuan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, opened in Chengdu on the 12th. The theme of this year's Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival is "Sharing Performance Practice and Deepening Civilization Mutual Learning". Multiple characteristic festival activities will be held to showcase the achievements of international intangible cultural heritage protection and share China's performance practice experience. This year's Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival includes four major sections: Wuzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage, Shenzhou Intangible Cultural Heritage, Bashu Intangible Cultural Heritage, and Yunshang Intangible Cultural Heritage. It includes more than 30 distinctive exhibition activities. More than 900 intangible cultural heritage projects, over 1800 traditional craft inheritors, over 3000 traditional performers, and over 1800 Chinese and foreign guests from 47 countries (regions) both domestically and globally participated. During the Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival, the Chengdu Forum on Intangible Cultural Heritage and the teacher training course on capacity building for intangible cultural heritage protection in the Asia Pacific region will also be held. After 16 years of development and cultivation, the Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival has become an exchange platform for countries around the world to showcase their intangible cultural heritage protection practices, an academic highland for gathering wisdom and development consensus, and a popular bond for conducting civilized and friendly dialogue. This year marks the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the UNESCO Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage. This year's Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival will focus on showcasing the international achievements of performance practices and Chinese wisdom, sharing the diverse cultures of humanity, and showcasing the long history and thriving vitality of Chinese intangible cultural heritage. The Tianfu Grand Crusade is the highlight and brand program of this year's Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival. Enthusiastic African drums, exciting ethnic minority songs and dances, and traditional folk performances that are popular among the masses... The performance team of nearly a thousand people will be showcased in series in the main venue according to six chapters: "Passion of Fire, Music from All Seas, Colorful Homeland, Sharing of Five Continents, Time Beat, and Ba Feng Shu Rhyme". As a representative project of national intangible cultural heritage, Shaolin Kung Fu has a history of over 1500 years since its inception. In the chapter of "The Legend of Fireworks", students from Shaolin Yanlu Martial Arts School in Dengfeng City, Henan Province performed Shaolin Kung Fu, which is simple, vigorous, and agile in attack and defense, showcasing the essence and spirit of Chinese martial arts to the world. In the chapter of "Ba Feng Shu Yun" that embodies multi-ethnic culture, Xiao Yege, a 3-year-old representative performer of the national intangible cultural heritage project Qiang sheepskin drum dance, relies on the oral instruction of his parents to vividly portray typical movements such as "Tiptoe Jump Step", "Waste Jump Step", and "Shang Sheepskin Leg Jump Step", vividly restoring the unique charm of sheepskin drum dance. Inheritors from Chongqing, Chengdu, Luzhou, Leshan, and Dazhou conducted a dragon dance performance, showcasing intangible cultural heritage projects such as Tongliang Dragon Dance, Luzhou Rain Tan Colored Dragon, Muchuan Grass Dragon, and Anren Bench Dragon with distinct regional characteristics and rich cultural heritage, vividly reflecting the beautiful connotations of folk culture. Sichuan is a major province of intangible cultural heritage in China, with 8 UNESCO intangible cultural heritage list projects, 153 national level, 1132 provincial level, and thousands of representative municipal and county-level intangible cultural heritage projects. Since the first Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival was held in 2007, the Chengdu International Intangible Cultural Heritage Festival has held more than 2000 events, inviting more than 9000 intangible cultural heritage projects to participate and more than 600 performance teams to participate, attracting more than 130 countries (regions)
