2023-10-09

Tian Ziyu was born in Chongqing in 1946. An expert in the history of the Communist Party of China and a professor at Hubei University. He has served as a specially appointed researcher at the Compilation and Research Center of "Ma Zang" at Peking University and an advisor to the People's Government of Hubei Province. I have been engaged in long-term research on figures in the history of the Communist Party of China, local party history in Hubei, and the early dissemination of Marxism in China. His main works include "Li Hanjun", "History of the May Fourth Movement in Wuhan", "History of the New Democratic Revolution in Hubei (Volume of the Liberation War)", "Entering the Shilin", and "History of the Early Spread of Marxism in China (1918-1922)"; Editor in Chief, "Series of Works on the Early Spread of Marxism in China (1920-1927)", etc. On a day in September 2023, Professor Tian Ziyu forwarded a recently published paper by a young scholar in the work WeChat group, Please, especially young PhDs, learn this article. Studying party history in the vast historical materials is not a one-time achievement. Some people like to follow the trend, like to be short and straightforward, and like to establish relationships, but they cannot achieve knowledge. The inspiration this paper gives us is to make full use of rich raw materials, start from small problems, and make big articles. Come on! "More than 30 scholars in this working group, More than 10 universities and research institutions from all over the country have gathered in Professor Tian Ziyu's team due to their shared interest in the study of the early dissemination of Marxism in China. Although Professor Tian Ziyu's physical condition has been poor in recent years, his brain has been running at a high speed, constantly reflecting on the collection, organization, and research work of early Marxist dissemination classics. In his own words, this is his "greatest concern in his later years". In fact, Tian Ziyu's attention to the early dissemination of Marxism can be traced back more than 40 years ago. Starting from studying early Marxism, Tian Ziyu's academic career began with studying early leaders of the Communist Party of China such as Yun Daiying, Li Hanjun, and Dong Biwu. Tian Ziyu was born into a red family, with both parents being intellectuals who participated in the revolution in the 1930s. His father worked alongside Dong Biwu for many years. Influenced by his family, Tian Ziyu has been interested in the life and thoughts of the older generation of proletarian revolutionaries since childhood. When he was in elementary school, he began to ponder why intellectuals such as Dong Biwu, Li Dazhao, and Yun Daiying, who had received higher education, were willing to give up their originally superior living conditions and join the revolution? What ideals, beliefs, and pursuits are they based on when they learn and spread Marxism? In 1979, on the 60th anniversary of the May Fourth Movement, Tian Ziyu was invited by Hubei Children's Publishing House to write a student book telling the story of Yun Daiying. Yun Daiying was one of the earliest advanced intellectuals in China to learn and spread Marxism, known by Zhou Enlai as the "leader loved by Chinese youth". He sacrificed himself in 1931 at the age of only 36. In order to write this book well, Tian Ziyu visited Yun Daiying's researchers everywhere. In Wuhan, he visited and met his father Li Liangming (who was a young teacher at Central China Normal University at the time), and since then he has become a close friend; In Beijing, he visited Zhang Yu (senior editor of China Youth Publishing House), the main organizer of Yun Daiying's diary, and obtained a lot of first-hand information.
