Accurately tracking and identifying national treasures with "cultural relics fingerprint"

2023-09-06

Through digital technology, we can find the unique micro trace features of each cultural relic, accurately track and identify national treasures... An application being developed by the Linping Museum in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province (China Jiangnan Water Township Cultural Museum) - "Cultural Relics Fingerprint", effectively solves the worries in cultural relics lending and exchange, and enables cultural relics to truly and safely "come to life". The storage and management of cultural relics in museums used to rely on manual labeling, but later used electronic labels to record the entry and exit of cultural relics. With the increase in the number of cultural relics and the demand for circulation and secondment, management risks are prone to occur in the information management, warehousing, secondment, inventory management processes of cultural relics, and risks are difficult to detect, trace, and verify lost objects. Moreover, the current level of manufacturing counterfeit goods is increasing, and relying solely on warehouse keepers to rely on experience for inspection and identification is difficult to eliminate the risk of "exchanging fake for real". In view of this, many cultural relics experts have proposed that it is urgent to conduct objective and scientific identity comparison and appraisal when lending and returning cultural relics. However, due to the lack of intelligent tools and equipment for such scenes, the industry pain point of difficult identification of authenticity after cultural relics are returned has been troubling major museums. The "Cultural Relics Fingerprint" project developed by Linping Museum utilizes image fingerprint extraction technology, fingerprint similarity calculation method, big data technology, cryptography, peer-to-peer network and other technologies to establish a unified platform including server and governance ends. The development includes a cultural relic fingerprint system, a collection basic data management system, a cultural relic circulation traceability and storage system, a cultural relic brain, and an image service platform The application of museum collection management based on cultural relic micro trace comparison, including the blockchain basic service platform. How were the "fingerprints" of cultural relics found? At the Linping Museum, the reporter saw an instrument similar to a microscope that can magnify the surface of cultural relics to hundreds of times and automatically zoom to capture details without touching them. We usually collect two or three details from a cultural relic, each of which takes more than 10 photos of different multiples. Then, the system captures the feature points on each photo and generates a 'fingerprint' model. "Yu Qiuna, deputy director of the Linping Museum, told reporters that during comparison, as long as the cultural relic is aligned with the instrument at the same position, the system can automatically compare. If the results match the feature points of the previously collected 'fingerprint' model, It can be determined that this is the same cultural relic. In addition, due to the use of blockchain technology, the collected feature points and models cannot be tampered with, which can better maintain the security of cultural relics. It is reported that the "Cultural Relics Fingerprint" application project has been listed as a pilot sub project of the digital reform of the Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Relics Bureau. Through open bidding, NetEase (Hangzhou) Network Co., Ltd. is responsible for the research and development of cultural relics' fingerprint comparison algorithm, as well as the management and application construction. At present, the project has achieved phased results in the identification of cultural relics, and has basically completed the upgrading of special collection equipment and the construction of the cultural relics' fingerprint platform. Since November 2022, the Linping Museum has completed the collection of 1193 cultural relics' fingerprints, totaling 4044 collection points and 18213 'fingerprints'. The types of cultural relics mainly include calligraphy, painting, and jade, as well as various categories such as stone, ceramic, gold and silver, and bronze. Meanwhile“
