Russian fighter jets intercept US drones over the Black Sea

2023-08-28

On the 27th, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement stating that a Su-30 fighter jet intercepted a US Air Force MQ-9A "Reaper" drone over the Black Sea waters on the same day. The statement stated that Russian airspace surveillance equipment detected an aerial target approaching the Russian border over the Black Sea waters on the same day. In order to identify aerial targets and prevent violations of the Russian border, a Su-30 fighter jet from the Russian air defense duty force immediately took off. It has been confirmed that the aerial target is the US Air Force MQ-9A "Reaper" unmanned reconnaissance aircraft. When Russian fighter jets approached, this US drone turned around and flew away from the Russian border, without violating the Russian border. The Russian fighter jet then safely returned to the base. The statement also stated that Russian fighter jets strictly follow international rules for the use of neutral waters and airspace, and comply with safety measures. On the 22nd, the Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement stating that Russian military warplanes intercepted two foreign drones carrying out reconnaissance missions over the Black Sea, namely the MQ-9 "Reaper" drone and the TB2 "Flagman" drone. But the Russian Ministry of Defense did not specify which country these two drones belong to. (End)
