"Beautiful Hong Kong" Launches Four Major Theme Activities to Build a Low Carbon and Sustainable Future

The "Beautiful Hong Kong" series of activities jointly planned by the Chorography Center and other parties held a launching ceremony and launched four theme activities on the 24th to introduce the beautiful environment and natural ecology of Hong Kong to Hong Kong citizens, appeal to the community to enhance environmental awareness and jointly build a low-carbon and sustainable future. According to reports, the four major theme activities of "Beautiful Hong Kong" include: Hong Kong's Ten Natural Sceneries Selection, Youth Natural Ecology Guide Program, Primary and Secondary School Students' Natural Ecology Learning Program, "Hong Kong Chronicle of Nature" Publishing Ceremony and Environmental Ecology Forum. Eric Chan, Chief Secretary for Administration of the Hong Kong SAR Government, introduced at the launching ceremony that the SAR Government is committed to protecting Hong Kong's natural ecology. At present, 40% of the land area in Hong Kong is protected. Hong Kong has 24 country parks, Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, 7 Marine park and other protected marine ecosystems. He stated that a series of activities for "Beautiful Hong Kong" will actively play the role of inheritors of green culture, promoters of green tourism, and advocates of green education. He hopes that all sectors of society will work together to shape a more beautiful Hong Kong. Bernard Charnwut Chan, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Chorography Center of Hong Kong, said that "Beautiful Hong Kong" was an activity that was spontaneous and participated by the people. As the organization responsible for compiling the first "Chorography Chronicles", the Hong Kong Chronicles Center, taking the opportunity of the publication of "Hong Kong Chronicles · Nature", joined forces with all sectors of society to tell the story of Hong Kong's natural history. The Chorography Center of Hong Kong was established by the Our Hong Kong Foundation in August 2019. The Hong Kong Chronicle is divided into ten categories, among which the "Hong Kong Chronicle: Nature" has five volumes and four volumes, providing a panoramic record of Hong Kong's historical and regional overview, population, natural environment, natural resources and ecology, environmental protection and ecological conservation.
