Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Ecological Environment Science Center Building a Pollution Control Platform to Assist in Building a Beautiful Bay Area

2023-07-24

The reporter recently traveled from Guangzhou in the middle of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area to Jiangmen in the west wing of the Bay Area, accompanied by blue sky and white clouds. And behind this beautiful environment, it cannot be separated from the efforts of the research team of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Ecological Environment Science Center over the years. The team has assisted in the scientific prevention and control of ozone pollution in Guangdong Province by building a vehicle mounted experimental platform. Smoke box simulation experimental platform for the Joint Research Laboratory of Atmospheric Photochemistry. The Cen Baixian Photography Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Ecological Environment Science Center is a provincial-level scientific and technological innovation platform jointly built by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment and Guangdong Province. Under the leadership of multiple academicians, four major laboratories have been established, including the Atmospheric Photochemistry Joint Research Laboratory, the New Pollutant Risk Assessment and Control Laboratory, and the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Environmental Quality Collaborative Innovation Joint Laboratory. It will be used for the prevention and control of atmospheric pollution in the Greater Bay Area Provide scientific support for carbon reduction and new pollutant treatment. The air pollution problem in the Greater Bay Area has a long history and has long troubled the ecological construction of the region. "Solving the ozone problem in Jiangmen can solve the ozone problem in the Great Bay Area, and solving the ozone problem in the Great Bay Area can provide ideas for solving the ozone problem in the whole country." Yang Weiqiang, a doctor from the Institute of Atmosphere of Guangdong Academy of Environmental Sciences, introduced that the manufacturing industry in the Pearl River Delta region is developed, and the emission intensity of atmospheric pollutants is relatively large. Jiangmen City is located in the west wing of the Pearl River Delta. Under the combined influence of emissions, meteorology and other factors, The problem of ozone pollution is most representative in the Pearl River Delta region. Yang Weiqiang introduced that since October 2022, the research team of the atmospheric photochemistry joint research laboratory has been tracking the ozone pollution in Jiangmen City, carrying out continuous online observation based on the super observation platform of atmospheric composition, analyzing and judging the air quality situation and putting forward countermeasures and suggestions. It is understood that the laboratory has built a smoke box simulation experimental platform and an atmospheric composition super observation platform, which can introduce external air into the dual reactor smoke box. By controlling reaction conditions and analyzing the mechanism of ozone generation, it is the first mobile and switchable dual reactor smoke box simulation experimental platform in China. It is also one of the mobile monitoring platforms with the highest integration, online measurement time resolution, and complete coverage of pollutants in China. Smoke box simulation experimental platform for the Joint Research Laboratory of Atmospheric Photochemistry. In addition to the Joint Research Laboratory of Atmospheric Photochemistry, Cen Baixian's new pollutant risk assessment and control laboratory also provides solid technological support for pollutant management in the Bay Area. The advanced planning, high standard design, and construction of the New Pollutant Risk Assessment and Control Laboratory have filled the gap in the field of new pollutant management in Guangdong Province. "Zhang Jingru, a postdoctoral fellow at the Risk Assessment Institute of the Guangdong Academy of Environmental Sciences, introduced that the laboratory will provide high-level technological support for the new pollutant management work in Guangdong Province. At present, the laboratory has research capabilities in qualitative identification, quantitative detection, molecular biology toxicity evaluation, and risk assessment of new pollutants, as well as advanced equipment such as nano infrared spectrometers, capable of conducting structural analysis of new pollutants and degradation products at the nanoscale. Zhang Jingru introduced that at present, the laboratory has carried out investigation, monitoring and risk assessment on new pollutants such as antibiotics, hormones, endocrine disruptors, Perfluorinated compound, flame retardants, etc. in typical industries such as aquaculture and electronics manufacturing in Guangdong Province
