Xunyang River Head Cultural Park Draws a New "Pipa Walk"

2023-07-03

The sound of pipa, which has been playing for thousands of years, rings again along the Xunyang River. On the bank of the Yangtze River in Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, groups of citizens and tourists are exercising and walking in the morning. The sound of pipa is heard from an antique pavilion with cornices. This pipa pavilion, named after "Pipa Xing", is the most attractive cultural landmark in the Yangtze River National Cultural Park (Jiujiang Section). Jiujiang was formerly known as Xunyang, and the section of the Yangtze River flowing through Jiujiang was formerly known as Xunyang River. In the tenth year of the Yuanhe reign of the Tang Dynasty (815 AD), Bai Juyi was demoted from Chang'an to be the Sima of Jiangzhou. The following autumn night, he came to the head of the Xunyang River to see off guests, and there were those playing the pipa in the boat at night. After a thousand calls and calls, I came out, still holding my pipa and half covering my face. "The experience of a pipa woman wandering in the world made him empathize." We are both fallen people from the ends of the earth, why did we ever meet? "Bai Juyi wrote" The pipa journey "with his pen, praising the ages. In memory of Bai Juyi, later generations built a pipa pavilion at the drop off point. The pipa pavilion has gone through ups and downs, and has been repeatedly destroyed and built. In March 1988, Jiujiang City rebuilt the Pipa Pavilion 5 kilometers downstream of the original site. But the reconstructed pipa pavilion occupies a small area. The biggest obstacle to expansion is the chaotic surrounding docks. Wang Jiance, former curator of Jiujiang Museum, said that most of these docks were formed in history, involving a wide range of people and complicated situations, and the reconstruction work was once slow. Since 2012, the Yangtze River shoreline regulation has been deepened in Jiujiang. Nine illegal docks around the Pipa Pavilion have been demolished successively. In April 2017, the rebuilt Pipa Pavilion Scenic Area officially opened, expanding its area by 10 times, adding a Pipa Pool and multiple scenic spots that recreate the scenes from the poem "Pipa Xing". A new type of composite scenic area centered on history and culture, combined with the concept of Binjiang Ecological Park, integrating humanities, history, and sightseeing and leisure, embedded by the Yangtze River. The newly renovated pipa pavilion attracts tourists from all over the country. "The big strings are as noisy as the rain, and the small strings are as loud as whispers. The big pearls and small pearls fall on the jade plate." Entering the Pipa Pavilion, the music plays, and visitors can immerse themselves in the dreamlike beauty of the Pipa Pavilion on the Xunyang River. Sitting at a wooden table, they can drink with Bai Juyi in the moonlight through digital technology, compose Pipa poems and enjoy Pipa songs together, and have a dialogue across time and space. "The Xunyang River sees off the guests at the first night, and the maple leaves, the grass, and the autumn flowers are rustling." The well-known lines in Pipa Xing tell the mood of Bai Juyi's wailing sad songs. Nowadays, strolling along the riverbank, the bleakness is no longer there. Looking from afar, the riverbank is lush with greenery, the river is vast and misty, and ships shuttle through, creating a bustling scene. In 2022, the construction of the Yangtze River National Cultural Park was officially launched. Jiujiang inherits the millennium culture, takes Pipa Pavilion as the main body, strings up the Suojiang Tower, Xunyang Tower and other historic buildings, builds the "most beautiful Yangtze River shoreline", creates the Yangtze River National Cultural Park (Jiujiang section), and restores the "poetic Yangtze River". Starting from the Pipa Pavilion, stroll along the river for 1 kilometer and arrive at the Suojiang Tower Scenic Area. The Suojiang Tower was first built in the 13th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty (1585 AD), with a history of over 400 years. Standing on the observation deck of the Lock River Tower, looking up at the blue sky and overlooking the Bijiang River, the scenery is breathtaking. The buildings used to control and tame water have become
