SR-42 Anti Drone System: Alternative Interpretation of "Two pronged Approach"

Currently, the threat posed by drones on the battlefield is increasing, and some countries are increasing their research and development efforts in anti drone weapons and equipment. In this type of weapon equipment, there are both a combination of missiles and artillery, as well as a mixture of machine guns and artillery. With the maturity of laser and microwave technology, combinations of "soft and hard" such as laser and gun or microwave and gun have emerged one after another. Nowadays, the SR-42 anti drone system launched by Soukos Robots, a Greek company, provides an alternative interpretation for the "two pronged approach" by combining microwave interference and laser strike. The reason why the combination of microwave interference and laser strike is called "new" is because the microwave jammer and laser transmitter used to emit both microwaves and lasers consume a lot of power. Due to the need for sufficient power as support, combining these two for anti drone use is also a method that has only been "unlocked" in recent years. The SR-42 anti drone system is an onboard system that primarily utilizes microwave jammers to implement "soft kill". Under its influence, precise electronic devices such as radio control signal receivers, positioning and navigation devices, and electronic sensors on drones can be interfered with or even destroyed. In this way, the drone will make a forced landing, crash, or terminate its mission and return to the launch site due to the loss of its "eyes" or "brain". The SR-42 anti drone system relies on the laser beam emitted by the laser transmitter to implement "hard kill". This laser beam can rapidly increase the temperature of the drone, leading to the melting of the body or functional payload, and even directly destroying ammunition, thereby disabling the drone and causing it to crash. Due to the use of light and waves as weapons, the SR-42 anti drone system theoretically has the ability to engage instantly and can "modulate" different launch powers according to the different targets being hit. It also has significant advantages in terms of target capture speed and attack direction transformation. It is said that the system can also be used to counter enemy forces. One is to carry out "non thermal effect" killing, which can cause reactions such as irritability, headache, memory loss, neurological disorders, and heart failure when irradiated with low-frequency microwave. The second is to carry out "thermal effect" killing, which can cause severe burns to the eyes and skin, or even death to the target when using high-frequency microwave irradiation. In order to ensure "accurate shooting", the system takes great pains in searching enemy targets. It is equipped with radar, sensors, thermal imagers, Laser rangefinder, etc., and can find, identify and locate multiple targets, including UAVs. This system is mounted on an 8-wheel all drive armored vehicle, so it has good maneuverability and can "form a gossip formation" to capture "flying generals" over a larger range. The armored vehicle adopts fully electric drive, with both manned and unmanned driving modes. The shell has been specially designed, giving it a futuristic feel. In addition, it is coated with a protective layer, resulting in a certain level of stealth ability. However, armored vehicles are not the only 'mounts' of the system, and they can also be installed on platforms such as naval vessels. The feature of no ammunition storage and only sufficient power supply has attracted much attention as a new combination of SR-42 anti drone systems.
