2023-06-15

This year marks the 45th anniversary of the conclusion of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Japan and China and the 116th anniversary of the birth of Mr. Zhao Puchu. At the invitation of the Chinese Consulate General in Osaka, Master Zong Xing, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China, led a delegation of 21 Chinese Buddhists to Japan recently to attend the screening of the documentary "Zhao Puchu" and the Sino Japanese Buddhist Friendly Exchange Forum, to recall with the Japanese Buddhist community the great deeds of the ancestors of the Buddhist community, such as Zhao Puchu, to review history and talk about the future. Wu Jianghao, China's Ambassador to Japan, said in his congratulatory letter that China Japan Buddhist exchanges have a long history and have been an important link for cultural exchanges between the two countries since ancient times. After the war, the Buddhist circles of the two countries, led by Zhao Puchu, worked together to adhere to the idea of peace, carry out extensive exchanges and cooperation, promote the deepening of Buddhism between the two countries, and played a positive role in the reconstruction and development of China–Japan relations. Fang Wei, Vice Consul General of China in Osaka, read out Ambassador Wu Jianghao's congratulatory letter on his behalf. Chinese Consul General in Osaka, Xue Jian, stated in his speech that we need to inherit and carry forward the legacy of the Buddhist predecessors of the two countries, such as Zhao Puchu, Daxi Liangqing, and Kan Hara Huiqing, return to the origin of peace, never forget the original intention of friendship, always uphold good intentions, uphold faith, strengthen confidence, and jointly build the spiritual value bond between the two peoples, and strive to promote the stability of bilateral relations and achieve better development. At the symposium, Master Zong Xing, Vice President of the Buddhist Association of China, made a keynote speech. In his speech, Master Zongxing used the poetry collected in Zhao Pu Lao's poetry collection as a starting point to review the deep friendship between Zhao Pu Lao and Daxi Liangqing. Master Zongxing pointed out that Zhao Pu's collection of poems, lyrics, and songs includes a total of 1985 pieces, of which 397 are related to the friendly exchange of Buddhism between China and Japan, indicating the importance of friendly exchange between China and Japan in Zhao Pu's life. Especially the newly discovered Zhao Pulao's posthumous essays collected by Mr. Jun are important historical materials for studying the signing of the Sino Japanese Friendship and Peace Treaty. In the preface of Quwen, many touching events were mentioned, such as Mr. Matsumura of the Japan China Friendship Association's charitable act of painting "Roly-poly toy", which was very touching. It is said that in Culture of Japan, there is a custom of praying to the Roly-poly toy (Bodhidharma statue) when there is a special desire for success. The reason why Zhao Pulao is known as the "Roly-poly toy" is to imply the persistent pursuit and struggle spirit of the friends of the Japan China Friendship Association who have been committed to China Japan friendly exchanges for a long time, which is exactly the character we should inherit and carry forward today. The elder Liangqing of Daxi mentioned in the note of Qu Wen is an elder in Buddhism in Japan's Buddhist circle who has made profound friendship with Zhao Pulao for more than 20 years. He welcomed Zhao Pulao to Japan at the age of one hundred and wrote a farewell poem of "spring rain is like smoke, farewell feelings", which moved Zhao Pulao deeply and thanked him with the poem. From the poem of "the voice of the two brothers", we can feel the deep friendship between the two people. The work discovered this time is the posthumous work of Zhao Pulao 45 years ago, with a lingering ink fragrance and a love filled jade paper. Master Zong Xing pointed out that this year is the 45th anniversary of the conclusion of the Treaty of Peace and Friendship between Japan and China. The Buddhist circles of China and Japan should work together to carry forward the long cherished wish of predecessors, continue to promote China Japan Buddhist friendly exchanges, promote the cause of friendship between the two peoples from generation to generation, and make the "golden bond" relationship more brilliant. At the meeting, representatives from the Buddhist community of China and Japan spoke enthusiastically, reviewing the history of exchanges between the two countries' Buddhist communities and sharing anecdotes of their exchanges
