HKUST Holds "Unicorn Day"

The first "Unicorn Day" of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was held in Hong Kong on the 23rd. Nearly 100 innovative enterprises incubated by the University showcased their innovative achievements and exchanged insights with industry insiders, potential investors, and scholars to explore cooperation opportunities. Hong Kong University of Science and Technology introduced that the participating companies include 5 "unicorn" companies or listed companies, as well as nearly 90 startups, covering areas such as intelligent driving technology and mobile sports simulation games. Nearly 600 guests attended the event. The Acting Director of the Innovation and Technology Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, Qu Songbai, attended the event and delivered a speech, stating that the department launched the "University Science and Technology Startup Funding Scheme" in 2014, aiming to support local university teams in establishing science and technology innovation enterprises and commercializing research and development results. So far, the Innovation and Technology Department has provided approximately HKD 400 million in financial support to nearly 500 startups, with the largest number of startups related to HKUST. The President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Ye Yuru, stated that the event showcased numerous innovative achievements that benefited society, indicating that the university's efforts in promoting entrepreneurship have received many rewards. In the future, we will continue to expand cooperation with different stakeholders, assist in enhancing Hong Kong's research capabilities, create diversified employment opportunities, and jointly promote innovative development in the entire region. HKUST also announced two cooperation agreements on the same occasion, including discussions with Fosun International, Fosun Public Welfare Foundation, and Shaw Foundation to promote innovation, entrepreneurship, and other knowledge transfer activities, as well as cooperation with Shenzhen Angel Mother Fund to promote the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements.
