Trial operation of the world's largest offshore liquefied natural gas receiving station

2023-05-15

Today (May 14th), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC) announced that the world's largest offshore liquefied natural gas receiving station has successfully achieved its first ship unloading and pipeline ventilation, entering the trial operation stage. After the project is completed, it will significantly increase the proportion of clean energy power generation in Hong Kong, which is of great significance for optimizing the energy source structure of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area. The Hong Kong liquefied natural gas project is the largest offshore energy infrastructure construction project in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in recent years, mainly including a liquefied natural gas receiving station, a dual berth offshore terminal, and two submarine pipelines. As the world's first offshore all steel structure double berth receiving station, it can accommodate two of the world's largest floating storage and regasification units or liquefied natural gas transport ships for simultaneous berthing operations. After liquefied natural gas is transported to the port, it can be transported through submarine pipelines to two large power plants in Hong Kong, providing stable and clean power generation fuel. Liu Zhigang, Deputy General Manager of the Hong Kong Liquefied Natural Gas Project of Offshore Oil Engineering: The designed service life of the dock is 50 years, which is more than twice that of a conventional offshore liquefied natural gas receiving station. It can withstand a maximum of 2400 tons of ship berthing impact force of 4.9 million times per year. Since the start of construction in 2020, the project has successfully crossed complex sea areas such as the Longgu Channel, the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macao Bridge, and ship intensive areas. It has completed the construction and installation of 28 single structures with a total weight of 35000 tons, as well as the laying of 63 kilometers of submarine pipelines. The maximum depth of trenching reaches 8 meters, which is four times the depth of conventional submarine pipelines, accumulating valuable experience for ultra deep trenching operations in China. Wang Zhangling, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Offshore petroleum engineering Co., Ltd.: At present, we have formed the construction capacity of liquefied natural gas engineering in the whole industrial chain from liquefaction to gasification and from land to sea, and we are in the forefront of the world in the engineering fields of large liquefied natural gas modules, super large storage tanks and terminals. Next, we will continue to strengthen the core technology research in the field of clean energy. (New News Agency)
