2023-04-30

On the 29th, Wang Yi, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, met in Beijing with the Co-Chairperson of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Mechanism for the Reform of the 77th United Nations Security Council and the Permanent Representative of Kuwait to the United Nations, Barnai, and the Permanent Representative of Austria to the United Nations, Masik. Wang Yi stated that Security Council reform should adhere to fairness and justice, increase the representation and voice of developing countries, and provide more opportunities for small and medium-sized countries to participate in Council decision-making, especially correcting historical injustices towards Africa. I hope that the co chairs can guide all parties to eliminate interference, gather consensus, and promote the process of Security Council reform to be widely recognized by the international community. The results can withstand the test of history. Barnai and Masik appreciate China's commitment to strengthening the role of the United Nations and express their willingness to strengthen communication and consultation with Member States, including China.
