National Bureau of Statistics: The number of migrant workers in China exceeds 290 million

The latest 2022 migrant worker monitoring survey report released by the National Bureau of Statistics shows that the total number of migrant workers in China continues to increase, and their income steadily increases. In 2022, the total number of migrant workers in China reached 295.62 million, an increase of 3.11 million or 1.1% compared to the previous year. The growth rate of local migrant workers is faster than that of migrant workers, an increase of 2.4% compared to the previous year. Among migrant workers, the number of cross provincial migrants has decreased compared to the previous year, while the number of intra provincial migrants has increased. From a regional perspective, the number of migrant workers from the eastern, central, and western regions has increased, with the highest number of migrant workers choosing to work in the eastern region. The number of migrant workers working in the central and western regions has grown rapidly, an increase of 3.0% compared to the previous year. The proportion of female migrant workers has increased by 0.7 percentage points compared to the previous year. More than half of migrant workers choose to work in the tertiary industry, an increase of 0.8 percentage points compared to the previous year. The average monthly income of migrant workers has steadily increased, with a 4.1% increase compared to the previous year. Among them, the eastern region has the fastest monthly income growth rate, with a 4.5% increase compared to the previous year. The central and western regions have both seen a monthly income growth rate of over 3.5%. From an industry perspective, the average monthly income of migrant workers engaged in the accommodation and catering industry grew the fastest, with a 5.1% increase compared to the previous year.
