Uzbekistan, located in the hinterland of Central Asia, is located at the midpoint of the Silk Road. In recent years, China and Ukraine have formed a joint archaeological team to excavate the ancient city site of Mingtiepei located in the Fergana Basin, and have made many important discoveries, once again confirming that the Silk Road connecting East and West is a path of cultural exchange and mutual learning. Recently, the "East West Question" conducted an exclusive interview with Bojirong Matboboboyev, a professor at the Samarkand Archaeological Research Institute in Uzbekistan and the head of the China Ukraine Joint Archaeological Team, to listen to his account of how Ukrainian and Chinese archaeologists uncovered the "mysterious veil" of this legendary ancient city in Central Asia. The summary of the interview is as follows: Reporter: What is the reason for the joint archaeological excavation of the Ming Tiepei Ancient City Site between Uzbekistan and China, and what important discoveries have been made? Matboboboyev: Since 2012, Uzbekistan and China have formed a joint archaeological team to conduct joint archaeology on the Mintepe ancient city site located on the southern edge of the Fergana Basin. The goal of cooperation between the two countries is to conduct a detailed study of the process of ancient urban civilization and the cultural context and routes of the ancient Silk Road. It is not accidental that the Ming Tiepei Ancient City Site was selected as the object of joint research between the two countries, and corresponding records can be found in Chinese literature. The Fergana Basin is located at the crossroads of the ancient Silk Road and was once the intersection of Eastern and Western civilizations. It is generally believed that the Dawan Kingdom recorded in ancient Chinese literature is located here. After conducting a systematic investigation of the city sites in the basin, the joint archaeological teams of the two countries have decided to focus their work on the excavation of the Ming Tiepei ancient city site. The exploration and excavation of the Ming Tiepei Ancient City site by the Ukrainian Chinese joint archaeological team is underway. The area of Mingtiepei Ancient City is approximately 272 hectares, making it the largest ancient city in the Fergana Basin at that time. After excavating and exploring 20 locations within the ancient city, archaeologists discovered that the city is composed of three parts: an arch, an inner city, and an outer city. There are also several tall platforms within the city. In the city, there are not only well-equipped defense facilities such as walls, gates, and horse faces, but also large-scale urban road systems and buildings, as well as fully functional handicraft workshops inside and outside the city. In addition, archaeologists also discovered a large number of items such as metal, pottery, and animal bones in the city. Chinese colleagues have rich experience in researching historical cities such as Xi'an and Luoyang. For a long time, archaeologists were unaware of the location of the burial area in the ancient city of Ming Tiepei. Using the latest methods of our Chinese counterparts, we discovered the burial area for the first time in the city and unearthed cultural relics such as ceramic vessels, iron knives, and stone tools. This discovery further expanded the cultural connotation of the ancient city. The exploration and excavation of the Ming Tiepei Ancient City site by the Ukrainian Chinese joint archaeological team is underway. As an important cultural landscape on the ancient Silk Road, the city site is a direct reflection of the civilization and material culture of the times. After research, it was found that the Ming Tiepei Ancient City belongs to the urban type in terms of architectural structure, playing an important role in connecting the Silk Road. The ancient city of Tiepei in Ming Dynasty was once the center of trade exchanges, playing an important role in connecting Europe and Asia, cultural exchanges, etc. The discovery of Chinese coins, silk, and bronze mirrors in the Fergana Basin and throughout Uzbekistan also proves this point. The joint archaeology between Ukraine and China is of great significance in studying the history of the Northeast region of Central Asia and the Silk Road, which has made me
