Hotels with "skyrocketing prices" should rely on the market to regulate contract breaches and price increases, and must be resolutely punished

As the May Day holiday season approaches, there are reports in the media that holiday hotels around Beijing are "cooling down". For example, on April 29th, the price of a certain hotel was 5598 yuan/night, which was only about 37% higher than the usual weekend. However, during the same period last year, the room size increased to over 6000 yuan. The implication is that the price increase this year is relatively moderate. This report is full of mixed emotions. The price of 5598 yuan, even if not as much as before, is still a staggering "skyrocketing price" for ordinary people. The hotel has the right to set its own pricing. The booking of a high priced hotel indicates that the hotel has captured a portion of customers with strong purchasing power. But the report also stated that the hotel priced at 5598 yuan per night is "cold" and the booking popularity is not as high as before, which indirectly reflects that the high consumption group is not as much as imagined, and the tourism market should pay more attention to the consumption needs of ordinary people. In the past two years, many people's travel plans have been delayed. This year, they want to rush out in the spring to relax, which has objectively led to a significant increase in vacation demand and a general increase in hotel prices. In response to the rising prices of hotels in various regions, market regulatory authorities in multiple regions have recently issued warning letters, requiring operators to strengthen price self-discipline and strictly implement the system of price labeling and fee disclosure; In case of market price adjustment, price standards shall be reasonably formulated in accordance with relevant regulations, and forced consumption or forced consumption in disguised form shall not be allowed. No falsification or dissemination of price increase information shall be allowed, and no collusion or manipulation of market prices shall be allowed. It should be said that in the field of non livelihood security, as long as the operator is legal and compliant, regulation should not be excessive. "Heavenly priced" hotels should rely on the market to regulate. But the purpose of this warning book is not to interfere with the independent pricing rights of enterprises, but to prevent enterprises from pricing in illegal and irregular ways, and to avoid disrupting market order and infringing on the legitimate rights and interests of consumers. Recently, with the skyrocketing prices of hotels, there has been a trend of breaking contracts and increasing prices in the market. Some hotels and homestays have cancelled low-priced rooms booked by consumers without reason, and even fabricated excuses such as "bankruptcy selling", turning around and selling rooms at higher prices, attempting to earn an extra three to five hundred yuan. Such dishonest and infringing behavior on consumer rights should be resolutely punished. 'Heavenly priced' hotels are not the norm. Some hotels have high prices due to their own positioning. For example, some niche hotels only have a dozen or more rooms, and their daily prices are over 5000 yuan; But most hotels themselves are not positioned as high-end, with prices ranging from over 100 yuan to over 1000 yuan on weekdays and nights. The price increase is mainly due to insufficient supply. Adjusting the price of the latter mainly tests the wisdom and ability of city managers, rather than the morality and sentiment of merchants. Good urban management should be able to mobilize the hands of the market, continuously stabilize policy expectations, continuously optimize the business environment, allow for the free circulation of production factors including people, finance, and goods, and facilitate the investment and business development of operators. By increasing supply, improving facilities, and introducing competition, we can smooth out price fluctuations and lower some of the "skyrocketing prices" caused by supply shortages. We cannot expect merchants to voluntarily give up earning opportunities for long-term reputation or city image. Taking Beijing as an example, during the May Day holiday in Langfang, which is not far away, there are still five-star hotels with a cost of over 400 yuan per night. If the Beijing Tianjin Hebei linkage encourages consumers to travel across provinces, there will be less clustering, and hotels will
