Provide Necessary Support for Better Inheritance of Civilization - Summary of the Achievements of Asian Cultural Heritage Protection Action

2023-04-24

From April 24th to 26th, the Conference of the Asian Cultural Heritage Protection Alliance was held in Xi'an. The conference was co hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the National Cutural Heritage Administration and the People's Government of Shaanxi Province. As of now, 21 Asian countries and 3 major international organizations in the field of cultural heritage, including UNESCO, have confirmed their participation in the conference. Representatives from all parties gathered to build communication bridges and cooperation mechanisms for the protection and inheritance of Asian cultural heritage. The protection of Asian cultural heritage has achieved phased results. Asia is one of the earliest settlements of humanity and an important birthplace of human civilization. Generations of Asian ancestors have gone through the baptism of time, carving their production and life practices into a long history and accumulating deep civilization. The cultural heritage distributed on a vast land is a witness to the brilliant achievements of civilization. In May 2019, the Asian Civilization Dialogue Conference was held in Beijing, and "China will collaborate with Asian countries to carry out Asian cultural heritage protection actions" became one of the outcomes of the conference. In the past four years, a series of cultural heritage cooperation projects have been implemented under the framework of the Asian Cultural Heritage Protection Action. ——From the organization of the China Cultural Relics Exchange Center to Japan to hold an exhibition titled "Chronicles of the Three Kingdoms", to the appearance of the "Xiangshan: Gandhara Art Exhibition" jointly organized by the Palace Museum and relevant Pakistani departments in the Forbidden City, the cultural relics exhibition vividly tells the story of cultural exchange and mutual learning in the steps of "going out" and "bringing in". ——Chinese archaeologists and cultural relic restoration professionals have gone abroad to participate in joint archaeological operations and conservation and restoration projects in different countries and regions in Asia, contributing to China's efforts in the field of cultural heritage protection in Asia. ——We have signed cultural heritage cooperation documents with Pakistan, South Korea, and other countries, and collaborated with Afghanistan and Pakistan to hold online advanced training courses for professionals in stone cultural relics protection. We have also signed agreements with Asian countries, cooperated to prevent cultural relics smuggling, conducted technical cooperation, and conducted professional training, among other series of "combined actions". "In the past four years, the protection of Asian cultural heritage has been gradually deepened, with fruitful results at different stages. The Chinese plan to deepen cultural heritage cooperation among Asian countries and promote exchanges and mutual learning among Asian civilizations has been widely recognized by Asian countries in theory and practice," said Xie Bing, deputy director of the National Cutural Heritage Administration. The protection of cultural heritage has built a bridge of mutual understanding among the people in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. Standing in the restored nine story temple complex, the local people have repeatedly exclaimed that it is "very spectacular" and "has a sense of history". In 2015, the nine story temple complex located in the core area of Duba Square in Kathmandu, a World Heritage site, was severely damaged during a strong earthquake. After consultation between the Chinese and Nepalese governments, the restoration project of the nine story temple has been determined. In August 2017, the restoration project officially began, marking China's first large-scale cultural relic aid project in Nepal. After years of efforts, the Chinese Academy of Cultural Heritage has assisted the Nepal team in successfully completing the maintenance of the cultural relics of the nine story temple complex in Duba Square. Wen Dayan, Director of the Department of Exchange and Cooperation of the National Cutural Heritage Administration, said with deep feeling, "We used to be the beneficiaries of international cooperation on cultural heritage, but now we have become active contributors." According to statistics, in recent years, China has carried out cooperation in six Asian countries, including Cambodia
