Hong Kong high school students' mainland inspection activities are gradually taking place and will be optimized in a timely manner

2023-04-21

Since April 3rd, multiple mainland inspection missions for Hong Kong high school students majoring in Citizenship and Social Development (CSD) have been launched. On the 20th, Chen Muyan, Deputy Secretary General of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, stated that the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government will optimize the itinerary of mainland inspection missions in a timely manner to further broaden students' horizons. On the same day, Chen Muyan wrote an article in an online column of the Education Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, stating that the first Hong Kong citizen science student investigation mission to mainland China was successfully held from April 3 to 4. Teachers and students from two Hong Kong high schools went to Nansha in Guangzhou and Qianhai in Shenzhen for on-site investigation and exchange. It is reported that the study theme of this delegation is in line with the content of the Citizenship Department on "The Country Since the Reform and Opening up", aiming to increase students' understanding of the Guangdong Hong Kong Macao Greater Bay Area, and enable them to understand the current situation and development of economic cooperation between Guangdong and Hong Kong, cultural conservation, changes in people's lives, and the enhancement of comprehensive national strength. Chen Muyan stated that after the initial group, other mainland research groups on civic subjects have also set out one after another. The Education Bureau will continue to organize high-quality mainland inspection missions for high school students, and optimize their itinerary and visit points in a timely manner, including joining routes outside Guangdong Province, to further broaden students' horizons and guide them to reflect on the opportunities and contributions that Hong Kong and individuals can make in the development of the country. Starting from the 2021/2022 academic year, Hong Kong has implemented courses in Citizenship and Social Development in the fourth grade of secondary school (equivalent to the first year of high school in mainland China), with a focus on cultivating students' national identity. Mainland inspection is an important component of the civic education curriculum, aimed at enabling high school students to understand the national conditions and the latest developments of the country through on-site inspection activities.
