Transfer of Hengqin Port, Australian Port Area and other related areas to Macau

2023-04-20

With the approval of the State Council, from 0:00 on the 20th, the second phase of passenger and freight vehicle inspection areas in the Australian port area and related extension areas of Hengqin Port (excluding the bridge connecting the University of Macau to Hengqin Port) will be officially delivered to the Macao Special Administrative Region for use, and jurisdiction will be implemented in accordance with Macau laws. At midnight on the 20th, the handover ceremony was held between Guangdong and Macao. The representative of Guangdong handed over the symbolic object (the model of the Hengqin Port Australian Port Area) to the representative of Australia, and law enforcement personnel from Macau Customs and Public Security Police immediately entered to carry out security management tasks. The picture shows the scene of the handover ceremony for the second phase of the Hengqin Port area. The handover ceremony for the submission of images by the Information Bureau of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government was held on the north side of the personnel inspection and release hall at the Hengqin Port Phase II. Fu Yongge, Deputy Director of the Hengqin Guangdong Macao Deep Cooperation Zone Executive Committee, and Huang Wenzhong, Director of Macau Customs, respectively represented Guangdong and Macao at the ceremony. Macau Customs, Public Security Police, Gongbei Customs, and Zhuhai Entry Exit Border Inspection Station each dispatched 10 personnel to participate in the parade. It is reported that the Hengqin Port Phase II permanent passenger and freight lanes will adopt a "joint one-stop" innovative customs clearance mode. Entry and exit vehicles only need to queue up once to complete customs, border inspection, and inspection and quarantine procedures between the two places, effectively saving customs clearance time between the two places. Before the permanent passenger and freight passage of Hengqin Port Phase II is officially opened, clearance vehicles still need to use the current temporary clearance lane. The Hengqin Port is divided into three stages and handed over to the Australian side for management. The first stage of the inspection building and related extension areas were handed over to Macau for management on March 18, 2020, and officially cleared on August 18 of the same year. The port area managed by the Australian side this time is the second phase of passenger and freight vehicle inspection area. The third phase of Macau Light Rail extends to the Hengqin Port area and is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2024. (New News Agency)
