Energy structure transformation accelerates the release of demand for high-grade electrical steel

Against the backdrop of steady progress in China's energy structure transformation, electrical steel is becoming a key material for innovation and application of new energy low-carbon technology. On April 18th, a reporter from China Securities News learned at the 2023 (Second) High end Magnetic New Materials Development Forum hosted by the Zhongguancun Stainless and Special Alloy New Materials Industry Technology Innovation Alliance that under the "dual carbon" goal, downstream industries have increasingly high requirements for green, energy-saving, and low-carbon steel materials, and industries such as power engineering and electronic devices have urgent needs for the research and development of electrical steel. Vigorously developing electrical steel, also known as silicon steel sheet, is an essential soft magnetic alloy in the power, electronics, and military industries. It is also the largest production metal functional material, mainly used as the iron core for various motors, generators, and transformers. With the continuous improvement of transformer energy efficiency and the continuous development of emerging industries such as wind power, photovoltaic, and energy storage, Shougang Co., Ltd. aims at market development trends and adheres to the product positioning of "high-end, efficient, green, and environmental protection". With its five major advantages in product, quality, cost, technology, and service, oriented electrical steel products have entered the world's first tier, and the market share of ultra-thin specification products continues to lead. This product is widely used in high-efficiency energy-saving transformers, realizing full coverage of AC and DC UHV transformers, and becoming a major supplier of transformer materials for Baihetan Hydropower Station and Wudongde Hydropower Station. Transmission and distribution losses account for 6.6% of the total electricity generation in the country, and transformer losses account for 40% of the power loss in transmission and distribution. "Zhao Songshan, assistant to the general manager of Shougang Zhixin Qian'an Electromagnetic Materials Co., Ltd., stated that the carbon emissions in the power industry account for nearly 50%, which is the key to carbon reduction. This is mainly achieved through the transformation of the power generation system and the reduction of consumption in the transmission and distribution system, leading to the continuous increase of electrical steel towards high grades, high silicon, thin specifications, and high magnetic inductance in the future. He predicts that the demand for oriented silicon steel in China will reach around 2.5 million tons by 2025 and 3.2 million tons by 2030. On April 19th, the high-performance oriented electrical steel project was put into operation. The comprehensive utilization of solid waste resources and the production of high-performance oriented electrical steel projects, as well as the global launch ceremony of oriented soft magnetic materials, were held simultaneously. It was announced that the comprehensive utilization of solid waste resources project and the world's first specialized production line with 100% thin specification and high magnetic induction oriented electrical steel would be completed. Two oriented electrical steel products, 15SQF1250 and 23SQGD085LS, were launched globally. Among the products launched this time, the 15SQF1250 product is a new intermediate frequency oriented electrical steel product for the future, representing the world's thinnest oriented electrical steel product. Compared with the traditional deep processing ultra-thin strip with the highest grade of 0.15mm, the performance level has been improved by 7 grades, reaching the full range
