The reporter learned from the Zhongshan Procuratorate in Guangdong Province that the court had previously launched actions to trace the source of the industrial chain of illegal production and sales of electric earthworm catching devices through public interest litigation. Earthworms are the main group of soil animals and play an irreplaceable role in promoting organic biodegradation and nutrient cycling, improving soil structure, and regulating plant growth. They are known as "soil guardians". In June 2022, the prosecutor of the Zhongshan Municipal Procuratorate discovered during his performance that the "Earth Dragon Instrument" sold on several well-known e-commerce platforms was produced in Zhongshan City, and the device was used for large-scale electric shock hunting of earthworms, endangering biodiversity and damaging the ecological environment. After a further visit and investigation, the prosecutor found that three enterprises selling "Earth Dragon Instruments" in Zhongshan City have been filed civil public interest lawsuits by domestic environmental protection organizations, but there are still many enterprises still selling "Earth Dragon Instruments" on large-scale e-commerce platforms. In July 2022, the Zhongshan Municipal Procuratorate conducted a case filing investigation and, after consultation, decided to issue procuratorial recommendations to the Zhongshan Municipal Market Supervision and Administration Bureau to urge it to carry out special rectification of illegal activities related to the production and sale of prohibited hunting gear. After receiving the procuratorial suggestions, the city's market supervision bureau quickly carried out network monitoring, retrieved the sales records and sales amounts of banned hunting tools such as the "Earth Dragon Instrument" sold by merchants on e-commerce platforms, urged the platform to promptly remove relevant products from the shelves, and conducted law enforcement inspections on multiple production and sales enterprises, seizing 9 finished products, 53 semi-finished products, and 85 shells of the "Earth Dragon Instrument" in accordance with the law. Not long ago, the Zhongshan Municipal Procuratorate conducted a "look back" on the implementation of the procuratorial recommendations. The market supervision bureau of the city reported that no illegal production of "earth dragon instruments" has been found at present. In addition, in order to effectively promote the source protection of farmland and cultivated land, the hospital has further strengthened collaboration and cooperation with multiple units such as the Municipal Market Supervision Bureau, the Agricultural and Rural Bureau, and the Natural Resources Bureau.
