2023-03-15

Zhao Xiaoxing, director of the Dunhuang Literature Research Institute of the Dunhuang Research Institute, said that the global Dunhuang literature resource sharing platform "Dunhuang Relics Database", which has been built for 10 years, has been well received since it was launched for half a year. The Institute is sorting out the data of Dunhuang literature in Uighur language, promoting the full color printing of the Complete Collection of Dunhuang Literature, and is committed to sharing Dunhuang literature resources online and offline globally. Dunhuang Relics refer to the ancient documents from the 4th to 11th centuries A.D. unearthed in the Buddhist scripture cave of Mogao Grottoes in 1900. According to the latest statistics, the total number is nearly 70000. At present, these Dunhuang remains are stored in dozens of collection institutions in China, Britain, France, Russia, Japan and other countries, and there has been a lack of complete joint catalogue. In August 2022, the "Dunhuang Relics Database", organized and implemented by the Dunhuang Literature Research Institute of the Dunhuang Research Institute and provided by Zhejiang University with technical support, was officially launched. This is the first time that the Dunhuang Research Institute has released the Dunhuang Relics Sharing Platform with the goal of comprehensive collection and complete function to the world. "For researchers of Dunhuang Studies studies and lovers of Dunhuang culture, the Dunhuang posthumous books database system is more convenient in use and has more complete functions." Zhao Xiaoxing said that the platform includes basic information, digital images, full text records and related research literature catalogs of Dunhuang documents. At the same time, the platform can realize full text retrieval and cross-reference browsing of Chinese and Tibetan documents. At present, the database has launched 685 representative Dunhuang documents in electronic version for the first time, including the best works in Dunhuang documents collected by the Dunhuang Research Institute and the National Library of France. Updating the capacity and adding non-Chinese Dunhuang documents have become the key work of the research institute this year. "This year, we plan to publish 500 new Chinese and Tibetan Dunhuang documents, and we are collecting and collating Uighur documents. In the future, we also hope to collate and enter other languages and characters involved in the Dunhuang documents, such as Sutter and Sanskrit, into the database," Zhao Xiaoxing said. The publication of the results of the collation of Dunhuang documents is also an important part of the construction of the "Dunhuang Relics Database" project. Zhao Xiaoxing said that the Collection of Tibetan Documents in Dunhuang, Gansu Province, was published in August 2022. In 2023, the publication of the Complete Collection of Dunhuang Documents in full color printing should be promoted to realize the high-definition restoration of Dunhuang documents in the online map. The Dunhuang Research Institute disclosed that it will also continue to conduct comprehensive sorting and collection of Dunhuang scripture cave documents scattered around the world, and actively promote the digital return of Dunhuang scripture cave documents and cultural relics.
