On January 31 local time, two American officials said that the United States was ready to announce a new military assistance plan for Ukraine, with a total amount of more than US $2 billion, and that this assistance plan would include a long-range strike weapon for the first time. According to Reuters, US officials said that the weapons assistance plan would be announced as early as this week. In addition to long-range strike weapons, it is expected to include "Patriot" air defense system, precision-guided munitions and "javelin" anti-tank missiles and other equipment. One of the US officials said that part of the assistance amount to 1.725 billion US dollars, which will be paid through the "Ukrainian Security Assistance Initiative" (USAI) funds allocated by the Congress, which allows US President Biden to directly purchase weapons, rather than withdraw them from the inventory of the US military. It is said that this part of assistance will include the "Land Launched Small Diameter Bomb" (GLSDB) manufactured by Boeing for the first time, which has a range of 150 kilometers and has a precision strike capability. While providing this weapon, the United States rejected Ukraine's request for an army tactical missile with a range of 297 kilometers. Reuters said that GLSDB could help the Ukrainian army to attack targets currently out of range and further disrupt Russia's defense line. In November 2022, Reuters first exposed the proposal of Boeing to provide GLSDB for Ukraine. At that time, it was expected that this weapon would be provided to Ukraine in the spring of 2023. According to the manufacturer's introduction, GLSDB uses GPS guidance, can resist certain electronic interference, has all-weather combat capability, hit accuracy of about 1 meter, and can even be used to attack enemy armored vehicles. In addition to the funds provided by USAI, more than $400 million in aid funds will come from the "Presidential Appropriation Right", which allows the President to withdraw funds from the existing inventory of the United States Department of Defense in an emergency. Reuters said that since the outbreak of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, as of the announcement of the aid plan, the United States had provided about 27.2 billion US dollars in military assistance to Ukraine.
