Sanxingdui: "Divine Man" and "Divine Beast" Successfully "Cross the Pit" Combination

2023-01-03

The reporter learned from the Sichuan Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology on the 2nd that archaeologists successfully matched the bronze statue of kneeling in Sanxingdui No. 3 "Sacrifice Pit" with the mythical beast in No. 8 "Sacrifice Pit" by using a digital 3D model. Archaeologists use digital 3D model technology to synthesize cultural relic images. Ran Honglin, director of Sanxingdui Archaeological Research Institute of Sichuan Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, said that the two bronzes were unearthed from the six "sacrificial pits" newly discovered in Sanxingdui, which are very representative. In this splicing operation, the staff made full use of the digital 3D model technology and innovated the technical means of protecting and researching cultural relics. "Scanning cultural relics, and then using 3D models to perform virtual pairing on the computer, this new method can not only avoid possible damage caused by moving cultural relics on site, but also ensure accurate data, making the pairing research more convenient." Ran Honglin said. Ran Honglin told the reporter that when the mythical beast in No. 8 "Sacrifice Pit" was just unearthed, archaeologists and cultural relics protection experts found through careful observation that there were two bulges in the tail of the mythical beast, and the details and dimensions were consistent with the bronze kneeling figure unearthed in No. 3 "Sacrifice Pit". Combined with the shapes of the sacred animals and people on the altar unearthed in No. 2 "Sacrifice Pit" in 1986, it is judged that these two cultural relics can be matched together. The successful matching of the "cross pit" of the cultural relics unearthed in Sanxingdui shows that No. 3 "Sacrifice Pit" and No. 8 "Sacrifice Pit" have roughly the same age. Divine animals are the representatives of the earth, while human beings are the worshippers. Human dignity represents the sincerity of the worshippers to the gods and ancestors. The repeated appearance of the images of "divine animals top people" and "people top people" in Sanxingdui reproduces the scene of Sanxingdui ancient Shu sacrifice, reflects the ancient Shu people's understanding of the world and the universe in the sacrifice activities, and also reflects the integration of Central Plains culture and ancient Shu culture factors. It is understood that at present, this cultural relic has not been completely restored, and many details still need to be studied. Experts judge that there should be other components in the main body. In the future, archaeologists will use advanced scientific and technological means to restore more cultural relics unearthed in Sanxingdui. The recovered cultural relics are expected to bring more surprises to the public, and also help to restore the true face of the ancient Sanxingdui country more accurately. (Liu Xinshe)
