For the first time in Indian history! Sea commandos open to women

2022-12-14

According to a report on the website of Hindustan Times on December 12, senior officials familiar with the matter said that the Indian Navy had decided to open the door to elite special forces to women, which would allow them to serve as commandos of any arms of the three armed services for the first time. The special forces of the three armed forces are composed of some of the strongest soldiers, who have undergone strict training and have been dominated by men so far. An Indian official said: "Now, women navy soldiers can become sea commandos if they apply voluntarily and meet the standards. This is indeed a watershed in India's military history. However, no one can be directly assigned to special forces, and they must apply to join in advance." Another official said that the option of volunteering to join the sea commandos would be open to female officers and "fire fighters" next year (more than 40000 young men and women recruited by the Indian government according to the new conscription plan, "fire fighters" can only serve for four years, after which most of them need to retire to look for work). Sea commandos need to receive a series of mission training and be able to operate on land, sea and air. According to the report, these commandos can carry out secret attacks on enemy warships, shore facilities and other important military properties, carry out professional diving operations and surveillance and reconnaissance missions to support naval operations. They can also fight terrorists in a maritime environment. The third official said: "From special operations to missions on warships, the naval wing is now open to women, and it has transformed into a completely gender neutral force. If you meet the requirements, there is no shortage of opportunities." The Indian Navy Special Forces Wing is open to women against the background that the Navy is about to recruit cadres below the rank of officer for the first time. The Navy is closely monitoring the training of the first batch of fire fighters, including women. The first batch of "fire fighters" in the Navy has 3000 interns, including 341 women. It is reported that the Indian Armed Forces have come a long way 30 years after the appointment of the first batch of female officers for short-term service in the army. At present, they are providing women with more opportunities to give them new identities and power, so as to greatly reduce the gender difference in the traditionally male dominated field. Indian women soldiers are no longer in a marginal position. They play the same important role as their male counterparts: driving fighter jets and serving on warships. The first group of female candidates are currently receiving training at the National Defense Academy. (Outlook New Times)
