Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, met with President Michel of the Council of Europe in the Great Hall of the People on January 1. Michelle expressed her deep condolences to Comrade Jiang Zemin for his death due to illness. Li Zhanshu thanked the European side for its condolences and said that China would inherit Comrade Jiang Zemin's legacy and further promote the stable and healthy development of China EU relations. Li Zhanshu pointed out that the current China EU relations are at a critical stage of carrying forward the past and opening up the future. China is willing to work with the European side to implement the consensus of leaders of both sides, adhere to mutual respect, equal treatment, mutual benefit and win-win results, achieve peaceful coexistence and common development, and jointly promote the China EU comprehensive strategic partnership to make new progress and make more contributions to world peace and prosperity. The National People's Congress of China is willing to carry out exchanges with the European Parliament and the parliaments of EU member states in various forms, at different levels and through multiple channels to provide legislative guarantees for China EU practical cooperation. Michel said that the EU is willing to strengthen dialogue and communication with China, enhance mutual understanding and jointly address global challenges such as climate change, energy security and food security.
