At the invitation of Han Sanglin, Chairman of the ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly and President of the Cambodian National Assembly, Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, delivered a video address at the closing ceremony of the 43rd Annual Meeting of the ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Assembly on 24th. Li Zhanshu said that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the founding of ASEAN and the 45th anniversary of the Inter Parliamentary Conference of ASEAN countries. China is sincerely pleased with the achievements of the ASEAN Community and the development and growth of the ASEAN Inter Parliamentary Conference, and warmly congratulates on the smooth convening of the Conference. Li Zhanshu said that China and ASEAN are connected by mountains and rivers and people to people and are good neighbors, friends and partners with a common destiny. At present, the two sides have made a good start in developing a comprehensive strategic partnership, and the construction of the "Five Homes" has achieved gratifying results. Li Zhanshu said that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China held recently made it clear that the central task of the CPC in the coming period is to unite and lead the people of all ethnic groups across the country to comprehensively build a strong socialist modernization country, achieve the second century goal, and comprehensively promote the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation with Chinese path to modernization. China will continue to be committed to maintaining world peace and promoting common development, adhere to the diplomatic policy of friendship, sincerity, mutual benefit, inclusiveness, friendship and partnership with its neighbors, and deepen friendship, mutual trust and interest integration with its neighbors. China firmly believes that China ASEAN cooperation will continue to lead the times and contribute to peace and development in the Asia Pacific region. Li Zhanshu pointed out that China and ASEAN have many similar ideas in their respective development processes. China actively advocates the concept of people-oriented and people centred development. The National People's Congress and local people's congresses at all levels adhere to the principle of people first and practice people's democracy throughout the process. The ASEAN Charter also lists "people-oriented" as an important principle, while the ASEAN Community Vision 2025 reaffirms "people-oriented development". For a long time, the Inter Parliamentary Conference of ASEAN countries has adhered to the same philosophy, vigorously carried out cooperation in related fields, and made important contributions to the construction of ASEAN integration. Li Zhanshu stressed that exchanges and cooperation between legislative bodies are an important part of China ASEAN relations. The National People's Congress of China is willing to continue to carry out multi-level and multi-channel friendly exchanges with the Inter Parliamentary Assembly of ASEAN countries and the parliaments of ASEAN countries, enhance solidarity and cooperation, jointly strengthen capacity building, benefit the people of China and the region, enrich the content of the China ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership, and make new contributions to building a closer China ASEAN community of shared future.
