Use technology to benefit the disabled

2022-09-23

Use artificial intelligence to let the deaf mute communicate smoothly with the healthy listener; Wear a mechanical arm to let those who lack it "follow their heart"; Sitting in an intelligent wheelchair, going up and down the stairs freely... One after another "black technology" for helping the disabled has been introduced, which has improved the sense of happiness and acquisition of the disabled. Data shows that disabled persons account for about 15% of the global population, and the total number of disabled persons in China is more than 85 million. Nowadays, more and more disabled people are no longer willing to be "marginal people", but to become self reliant, actively integrate into society and realize their self-worth. Assistive devices are one of the main ways to help disabled people live independently, which can promote their integration into society and improve their sense of self-worth. According to statistics, nearly 80% of the disabled can improve their quality of life through assistive devices. The disabled people's yearning for a better life has provided a big market for the development of China's accessory industry. At the same time, we should also be aware that foreign enterprises that monopolize the original patents of hearing aids, functional wheelchairs, artificial limbs, rehabilitation robots and other products occupy most of the high-end market of domestic assistive devices for the disabled. For example, the price of manual customized wheelchairs for the disabled with severe spinal cord injury is generally about 30000 yuan, all of which are foreign products. Foreign enterprises can also continuously use new technologies to introduce new products and equipment. In contrast, some Chinese enterprises with assistive devices for the disabled have limited technical strength, limited funds available and insufficient human resources. Some domestic products have serious homogenization, few varieties, low grade and other problems. To help disabled people integrate into society, we should first focus on improving traditional assistive devices. The accessories need to be suitable for users. However, most of the imported accessories are based on the body shape characteristics of foreign users, and sometimes Chinese people do not "take advantage" of them. Wheelchairs and crutches that look simple involve frontier disciplines such as ergonomics and sports mechanics. Relevant enterprises should devote themselves to the research and development of these most common devices, and constantly debug them based on the size of Chinese users, so as to truly integrate the disabled and assistive devices. The use of new technology to innovate the form of disability products will help Chinese enterprises achieve "overtaking at curves". Taking artificial intelligence as an example, in addition to helping hearing impaired people to achieve barrier free communication, relevant enterprises also produce auxiliary glasses using this technology. This kind of glasses can recognize the images of banknotes, traffic lights, zebra crossings, etc., and bring help to visually impaired people by converting them into voice to remind users. Chinese enterprises may wish to give full play to their imagination and creativity, explore a new way to integrate artificial intelligence and other technologies with disability products, so that science and technology can better benefit the disabled. In the long run, efforts should be made to build a barrier free environment for the disabled to better integrate into society. During the Beijing Winter Paralympic Games, the Winter Paralympic Village provided a demonstration for building a barrier free environment. For example, in the Winter Paralympic Village, athletes can view the nearest accessible toilet in real time by clicking on their mobile APP, and can also provide accessible route navigation. Athletes can also check the information about the ramps, blind tracks and other barrier free facilities of the entire Winter Paralympic Village at any time. To create an accessible environment, Chinese enterprises in different fields should work together to bring convenience to the disabled. Scientific and technological progress provides convenience for helping disabled people better integrate into the society, and also
