China Australia Dance Troupe exchange project held a performance in Sydney

2022-08-25

The exchange project jointly participated by Hong Kong, China and Australian dance groups held a performance in Sydney on the evening of the 23rd, bringing a collision dialogue between East and West dance arts to the audience. Within five weeks, the dancers of the Sydney dance company learned the concepts and action skills of Chinese dance and martial arts from the Hong Kong Dance Company through remote video, and then integrated them into western modern dance to create a unique dance program. During the performance, more than 20 dancers from the Sydney Dance Troupe wore simple Tibetan blue clothes and pants, accompanied by the exciting drums in the music, spinning and jumping on the open stage. The movement arrangement not only has the essence of Chinese martial arts moves, but also fully reflects the spontaneous nature of modern dance. Linda Gamblin, the training director of the Sydney dance company, said in an interview with Xinhua news agency that as a ballet dancer, she visited China with the Australian Ballet in the last century and was greatly touched by the different cultural backgrounds and customs of the two countries. Gamblin is very excited to learn that there are many contents about Chinese Traditional Wushu in this exchange program. She believes that these contents can help dancers understand and control their own bodies, and better understand and complete dance movements from the inside. Mia Hamilton, a student of the Sydney Dance Troupe who participated in the performance, told the reporter that this was her first time to participate in the cross-cultural dance exchange project. Her exposure to new dance concepts opened her eyes. The exchange and learning process with Hong Kong dancers was very interesting and full of harvest. It is reported that this exchange project is supported by the economic and Trade Office of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China in Sydney. It is one of a series of cultural exchange promotion activities to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Hong Kong's return to the motherland. (news agency)
