2022-08-23

Just over 100 days after taking office, President Yoon sik Yue of the Republic of Korea reorganized the staff team for the first time on the 21st, adding a chief secretary and replacing the chief secretary in charge of propaganda affairs. South Korean media pointed out that the move was intended to strengthen the policy-making and coordination capacity of the office of the president. Kim Tae Kee, Secretary General of the office of the president of the Republic of Korea, announced at a press conference on the 21st that Yin Xiyue's staff team will add a chief secretary of policy planning and nominate Lee Kuan sup, vice president of the Korea Trade Association, for this post. Lee Kuan sup was once the head of the Korean water power atomic power company. Yin Xiyue's staff team currently consists of seven people, including the secretary general, the director of the national security office and five chief secretaries. Jin Daqi said that the new Chief Secretary of policy planning will be responsible for supervising the government's domestic policy agenda and strengthening coordination between the presidential office and the cabinet. At the same time, Jin Daqi announced the replacement of the Chief Secretary of publicity affairs, and nominated Jin Enhui, the spokesperson of Yin Xiyue during the term of the president-elect and a former congressman, to take up the post. Kim Eun Hui is a TV reporter and anchor. She served as the second spokesman of the presidential palace during the administration of former President Lee Myung Bak. In addition, Lin Zongde, who served as the Secretary of national defense during the administration of former President Park Geun hye, was nominated as the second director of the national security office. Yin Xiyue promised to abolish the chief secretary system during his presidential campaign, because some public opinion criticized the Chief Secretary for having too much power. However, considering the actual functions and roles of the chief secretaries, Yin Xiyue only abolished the Chief Secretary for civil affairs and the Chief Secretary for employment after taking office. In response to some people's criticism that Yin Xiyue failed to fully fulfill the above campaign promises, Jin Daqi said: "the presidential staff team should be adjusted in an organized way. However, we still adhere to the basic principle of streamlining personnel." Yin Xiyue took office as president of the Republic of Korea on May 10, and has been in office for 100 days on May 17. According to the results of the poll released by Gallup Korea on the 19th, Yin Xiyue won 28% of the support. At the press conference on the 100th day of the inauguration of the president of the Republic of Korea held on the 17th, Yin Xiyue said that "we will start to diagnose the problem from the office of the president" when talking about the declining support rate. Compared with the former president, Yin Xiyue first reorganized the staff team earlier. Former president Moon Jae-in's first similar reshuffle was two years after he took office. Park Geun hye and Lee Myung Bak reshuffled their staff teams during their 162 and 117 days in office respectively. (news agency)
