Fuxi memorial ceremony, tracing the source of ancient rites

2022-06-28

The annual Fuxi ceremony for the joint sacrifice of the two sides of the Taiwan Strait to the ancestor of the Chinese humanities was recently held in Xinbei City, Taiwan. After the drum music in Xiansi palace in Xinbei city was singing harmoniously, flags and flags were displayed, and a passionate Drum Art array was performed, the deacons in white robes and soap clothes performed their respective duties, "five steps and one meal", reproducing a grand and simple three sacrifice ceremony. Following the ancient rites, the sacrificial ceremony includes 30 processes, such as beating drums, welcoming gods, offering incense, sending gods, and three rites, i.e. the first offering, the second offering, and the last offering. The meaning of respect through thousands of years is contained in the dense cigarettes. When the three-way drum sounded, people began to pay homage to their ancestors. Under the leadership of the chief sacrificial officer, they presented flowers, kowtowed or made three bows to Fuxi statue. When the drums stopped and the music stopped, the chief mourner read the sacrifice respectfully, "compliment the holy emperor, the ancestor of humanity, the head of the three emperors, the leader of the hundreds of Kings... Five elements, four images, eight diagrams and nine palaces, and begin to make written deeds, formulate marriage, instead of tying ropes, netting fish tenancies, and spread the word throughout the ages.". The memorial text tells the legendary stories of Fuxi's creation of the calendar, engagement, teaching of fishing and hunting, remembers his achievements of "opening the sky with one painting and enlightening civilization", and wishes the epidemic situation to dissipate and peace and prosperity on both sides of the Taiwan Strait. The ancient music is in full swing, and many people have spontaneously come to offer incense. "In addition to the sacrificial ceremony, I also offer incense every July 19." An grandmother surnamed Chen said. It is reported that July 19 of the lunar calendar is Fuxi's "flying Memorial Day". This year, the two sides of the Taiwan Straits once again joined hands to celebrate Fuxi's sacrifice across the sea. On that day, the public memorial ceremony of Fuxi was held in Tianshui City, Gansu Province. The two sides of the Taiwan Straits held a grand event to recall the common cultural ancestor Fuxi and pursue the common cultural roots. The Chinese civilization is the only one of the four major civilizations in the world that has continued without interruption. Zhangfutang, chairman of the Taiwan Chinese Fuxi Association, said that Fuxi Culture is the root and source of Chinese culture and the spiritual link between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits. Both the people of Taiwan and the mainland are descendants of the Chinese people and belong to the Chinese nation. Taiwanese people have always followed the tradition of offering sacrifices to Fuxi. There are three emperors' temples all over the island, and Fuxi is respected as "the first of the Three Emperors". Cultural exchange is the living water connecting the two sides of the Taiwan Strait. Nowadays, affected by the epidemic situation, it is difficult for entities on both sides of the Strait to make a trip. The memorial ceremony of Xiansi palace in Xinbei city broadcast the public memorial ceremony in Tianshui, Gansu Province, and the memories of the common cultural ancestor traveled across the sea through the Internet. Tianshui, Gansu Province, is the birthplace of Fuxi Culture. In 2014, the two sides of the Taiwan Straits jointly commemorated Fuxi for the first time. Zhangfutang introduced that Fuxi temple in Tianshui, Gansu Province once led a delegation to Taiwan to "learn scriptures" and jointly discuss the etiquette regulation of exchange sacrifice ceremony. Now, it has been nine years since the two sides of the Taiwan Straits simultaneously commemorated Fuxi, and the friendship between the two sides of the Taiwan Straits will continue.
