After the rain, the sky began to clear, and mist swirled. On June 14, the terraces of Ziquejie, located in Xinhua County, Hunan Province, were flooded with water, like mirrors reflecting busy figures. Figure ①: Dujiangyan. Photographed by luozhongshan Drawn by: panxutao Fengyuhui, a villager from Ziquejie village, Shuiche Town, rushed to the terrace early in the morning and was busy with rice transplanting. Fengyuhui has cultivated here for generations. He told reporters that the purple magpie terrace is a gravity irrigation project. There is no need to dig a pond or build a reservoir. The gurgling water runs all the year round. With its ingenious design, Ziquejie Terrace is listed in the world Irrigation Engineering Heritage list. Irrigation is of great significance to the development of human civilization. Since 2014, the international irrigation and drainage Commission has begun to select Irrigation Engineering Heritage worldwide. China is a country with an ancient irrigation civilization. It is a country with the richest types of irrigation engineering heritages, the widest distribution and the most prominent irrigation benefits. At present, there are 26 Chinese projects on the world Irrigation Engineering Heritage list. June 11 this year is China's "cultural and Natural Heritage Day". Recently, people approached the heritage of irrigation projects, listened to irrigation stories and felt the charm of irrigation culture. Integrating nature and Engineering—— "The wisdom of the ancients is amazing" The world Irrigation Engineering Heritage condenses the wisdom of the ancients and flashes the light of civilization. A large number of irrigation projects have withstood the test of history, and have not become the ruins in the west wind, but continue to store flood and prevent drought, moisten the earth, and become a model of the integration of nature and engineering. Go down to the field barefoot and bend down to transplant seedlings... In the cascading terraces, Feng Yuhui repeated the actions of his ancestors. The water in this terrace has been flowing for more than 2000 years. According to textual research, Ziquejie Terrace originated in the pre Qin Dynasty and flourished in the song and Ming Dynasties. It is a milestone in the development of irrigation agriculture in the multi-ethnic inhabited areas in central Hunan. Terraced fields are distributed in the foothills at an altitude of 500-1200 meters, with a total area of 6416 hectares and a total of more than 500 levels, which are magnificent. There are no ponds or reservoirs in the terraces. Relying on the unique bedrock fissure pore water source, a pure natural gravity irrigation project has been built. The terraces over the mountain are connected by numerous irrigation water networks. Each terrace is both a reservoir and a soil conservation bed, which not only ensures rice irrigation, but also prevents water and soil loss. "The terraced fields of the purple magpie boundary are built according to the situation of the mountain. They are as small as a dish, as large as a basin, as long as a belt, as curved as the moon, with different shapes and changes, just like the Jade Pool in the sky and a fairyland on earth." This is the description of the terraced fields in the purple magpie field in the compulsory textbook for senior high school published by Hunan Education Press. Today, the terraced fields in the purple magpie community still support 16 villages and more than 10000 villagers, who still retain their traditional production and lifestyle. "Terraced fields are flood resistant and drought resistant. The wisdom of the ancients is amazing." Fengyuhui said. However, the benefits of traditional planting methods are low after all. Farmers' enthusiasm for farming is affected, and some fields are abandoned. In order to protect the farmland for the villagers and the scenery for the tourists, since 2016, Xinhua County has given subsidies to Grain Growers, and Shuiche town has guided farmers to establish cooperatives and farms. The government, enterprises and growers worked together to achieve win-win development, reversing the loss of farming. Fengyuhui responded to the call and mobilized the young people in the village and the elderly with working ability to establish cooperatives. When terraces are planted well, large and beautiful, tourism in the purple magpie community will develop. Fengyuhui said that the purple magpie community used to be a poor mountain valley, but now it is a 4A scenic spot. This year, the theme activity of "cultural and Natural Heritage Day" in Hunan Province was held in Xinhua County. Researchers from Central South University of forestry and technology made a speech on the protection of terraces in the purple magpie community, and the theme activities were broadcast live online at the same time. Ziquejie Terrace is praised by international water conservancy experts as "the miracle of the world's water conservancy and irrigation projects". 1000 kilometers away, another world irrigation engineering miracle also perfectly integrates nature and engineering. The rolling water of Minjiang River and the huge waves of sand and stones rolled and roared all the way out of the mountains. However, when they rushed to the middle stream, they suddenly stopped, gently poured into the Chengdu Plain, and gurgled away towards the fertile fields. It is Dujiangyan that "subdues" this manic river. Dujiangyan headworks project is located in Dujiangyan City, Sichuan Province. After entering Dujiangyan scenic area, the tourists look around and find that there is neither a dam nor a wide water surface. The famous Dujiangyan is somewhat "low-key". This is exactly the greatness of Dujiangyan. It is the oldest and the only dam free diversion irrigation project in the world today. Dujiangyan was built in the Warring States period. In 256 BC, Li Bing, the governor of Shu Prefecture, built the Dujiangyan water conservancy project. By building the Yuzui and digging the baopingkou, the Minjiang River water was introduced into the hinterland of the plain for flood control, shipping and irrigation, turning the Chengdu Plain from a "land of abundance" to a "land of abundance". In 662 ad, Feisha weir was completed, marking the formation of the layout of the three main works of Dujiangyan canal head. During the Tang and Song Dynasties, the irrigation area of Dujiangyan gradually expanded. After the founding of new China, the Dujiangyan water conservancy project has been transformed on a large scale, and the irrigation area has grown to 10.65 million mu in 7 cities and 38 counties. The scientific nature of Dujiangyan water conservancy project is praised by the world. "Deep scouring of the beach and low weir", "four or six points to smooth the drought" and "taking advantage of the situation and adjusting measures to the time"... These water control concepts inherited through the ages were derived from the unremitting efforts of predecessors and are of great value even today. After more than 2000 years of hard work, the great benefits of Dujiangyan have continued to this day. In recent years, the Dujiangyan water conservancy project system has been continuously improved, and this ancient irrigation project heritage is increasingly young. In the hinterland of the Sichuan Basin, the hilly area of the watershed on both sides of the Tuojiang River and the Fujiang River, the terrain is like the back of a fish, unable to retain water, and has become a famous "dry area in Central Sichuan". "Look, here comes the water!" On July 6, 2021, in Lezhi county, Sichuan Province, 87 year old wanglongying stood beside the "Tianhe" with crutches, excited. Above his head, the river PI flows slowly. On the same day, the first phase of the Pihe water supply project was supplied with water, which "quenched the thirst" of nearly 2.25 million people in Central Sichuan. Pihe River is one of the main diversion channels of Dujiangyan, and the water supply project of Pihe River is an important part of Dujiangyan water conservancy project. Today, an artificial river with a length of more than 150 kilometers runs across the middle of Sichuan and runs parallel with the Tuojiang River. Part of the aqueduct crosses over the city and is called "Tianhe" by the people. At present, the second phase of Pihe water supply project is accelerating. The world Irrigation Engineering Heritage carries thousands of years of civilization and wisdom, benefiting one side and future generations. Tongjiyan, located in Lishui City, Zhejiang Province, has a history of 1500 years. It has irrigated the Bihu plain, making it an important grain producing area in Southwest Zhejiang; Zhengguoqu, located in Jingyang County, Shaanxi Province, still nourishes 1.45 million mu of farmland in Guanzhong Plain after changes Overall protection and utilization—— "The ancient village in memory is back" In recent years, all localities have done a good job in the protection and utilization of irrigation engineering heritage, so that the irrigation engineering heritage can bloom in the new era. Lougang is an ancient and unique water conservancy project in Taihu Lake area. 2500 years ago, the ancestors dug Lou port, built canals and built polder fields on the wetland and tidal flat of Taihu Lake. Looking down from the air, the water network of lougang is vertical and horizontal, like a chessboard. Lougang is a great creation of the ancient working people in the Taihu Lake Basin. It conforms to nature, diverts and discharges water in two directions, harnesses water to attack sand, turns the beach into fertile soil, and creates a grand scene of "a land of fish and rice, a network of water, and thousands of green plants and mulberry trees on both sides". Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province is the only area that has completely preserved Lou port. Yigao village, Wuxing District, Huzhou City, located at the Bank of Taihu Lake, is located at an important node of the Lou port system and is known as the "pearl in the Lou port cultural belt". On a summer morning, hugen, a 79 year old villager of Yigao village, began to pace along the river. The blue sky and green water, pink walls and black tiles, and mottled ancient bridges can remind the old man of every scene. Hugencai told reporters that the "Pearl" of Yigao village has also experienced a dark period. "Many historic sites have been destroyed, and the river channel in the village once became a smelly ditch..." hugencai said, "eight years ago, the ancient village in my memory came back." In 2014, Yigao village was listed in the list of Chinese traditional villages and the key village for the protection and utilization of historical and cultural villages in Zhejiang Province. Ancient bridges, roads and houses were restored. In november2016, Taihu lougang was listed in the world Irrigation Engineering Heritage list. Today, there are special regulations for the protection of Lou port. On June 20, the regulations on the protection of the world irrigation project heritage of hulou port, Taihu Lake (hereinafter referred to as the regulations) came into force. The regulations put forward that it is not allowed to "occupy, bury, block, excavate lougang, Hengtang, and Huyang without authorization", and it is not allowed to "build residential, commercial, office, and factory buildings in the core reserve". When talking about the regulations, Hu Gen became excited and spoke faster. He said that during the formulation of the regulations, "I have also been consulted. As long as it is to protect lougang, we villagers support it." The villagers of Yigao village understand that to protect lougang is to protect their own good life. Every holiday, the ancient farmhouses become lively everywhere. "People from surrounding cities come to Yigao village whenever they have time. It's very comfortable to sit by the river, see the scenery of the ancient village, drink tea and sing." Hu Gencai said. Now, the villagers are looking forward to the restoration and protection of more historic sites in lougang, such as the five Lake academy, to retain the water vein and homesickness. On the land of China, more and more irrigation engineering heritages are alive and beautiful. In summer, Lingqu, located in Xing'an County, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, is covered with green trees and rippling blue waves. Several cruise ships skimmed the water, crossed under the stone bridge and sailed far away. Lingqu, with a history of more than 2000 years, once stopped shipping. In recent years, through a series of efforts, Lingqu has been able to resume navigation, and the Millennium Monument has been revived. Founded in 214 BC, Lingqu connects the source of Xiangjiang River and Lijiang River. It is a cross basin water conservancy project connecting the Yangtze River Basin and the Pearl River Basin. It has both water transport and irrigation benefits. It is one of the most famous water conservancy projects in ancient China. However, with the passage of time and changes of things, since the opening of Hunan Guangxi railway in the 1940s, the transportation function of Lingqu began to weaken gradually. By the 1960s, Lingqu shipping had completely stopped. In the 21st century, after careful investigation, water conservancy experts proposed that the Lingqu should be "alive" again. After repair and renovation, Lingqu officially resumed navigation in january2018. In the same year, Lingqu was listed in the world Irrigation Engineering Heritage list. The successful application for the world irrigation project heritage has made Lingqu protection station a new starting point. In March this year, the dredging project of Lingqu was completed as scheduled, which optimized and improved the water environment of Lingqu. The Sanli bridge with a history of more than 500 years spans the Lingqu canal. Recently, the bridge deck was partially collapsed. Xing'an County timely organized cultural protection experts and bridge experts to conduct on-site survey and properly repaired the collapse. The development and utilization of the world irrigation engineering heritage is based on the protection. In 2018, the No. 1 central document of the central government clearly proposed to protect the heritage of irrigation projects. In 2022, the No. 1 central document proposed to promote the protection and utilization of intangible cultural heritage and important agricultural cultural heritage. Connect water vein and context—— "Let the traditional culture be inherited" The heritage of irrigation projects not only produces a bumper harvest, but also a splendid culture. June 3, Dragon Boat Festival. In sangyuanwei, Foshan City, Guangdong Province, a dragon boat race kicked off. The helmsman controls the direction, the drummer commands the rhythm, and the rower works hard
