Digital technology will "reproduce" Dunhuang Scripture cave

With the support of digital technology, the Dunhuang Scripture cave and about 60000 cultural relics unearthed will be "reproduced" in front of people. On June 15, Dunhuang Research Institute and Tencent interactive entertainment cooperated to establish a "Joint Laboratory of digital creative technology for cultural heritage" to jointly explore new technologies and models for cultural heritage display. "Digital Scripture cave" is one of the first projects of the laboratory. In 1900, the Dunhuang Scripture cave was a world shaking sight. In the caves of less than 7 square meters, about 60000 cultural relics from the 4th century to the 11th century were unearthed. Dunhuang studies, known as "international famous studies", is based on these Buddhist classics and social documents written in Chinese, Tibetan, Tibetan and other languages. The laboratory will use digital twin technology as a means to restore the Dunhuang Scripture cave in a ratio of 1:1, and "reproduce" the documents that have been lost overseas or entered the museum in the cave. The No. 001 document "Gui Yi Jun Ya Fu Jiu Po Li" collected by Dunhuang Research Institute will be the first "reappearance" of the content. "We hope to combine the scripture cave documents with the historical stories, so that users can enter the cultural scene and interact with historical figures." Said Li Hang, executive director of Tencent New Cultural Innovation Research Institute. It is reported that the two sides are also jointly creating the official virtual image of Mogao Grottoes, "Jiayao". This virtual human, based on the Dunhuang mural image "Jialing Pinjia", can interact with people and dance Dunhuang dance. In addition, the two sides will carry out personnel training in the field of digitalization of cultural relics. "New technologies such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence have provided new impetus for the creative transformation and innovative development of cultural heritage.
