US Army accelerates network modernization and integrates intelligent technology and algorithm

According to the US "C4ISR" website, the US Army is testing mobile communication equipment for armored forces. In recent years, aiming at the goal of "military civilian integration", the US Army has continuously accelerated the construction of network modernization. By designing the architecture, integrating advanced technologies and algorithms, carrying out experimental evaluation and other measures, it realizes global multi-dimensional connectivity, expands the cognitive function of decision-making, and tries to win the initiative of multi domain operations in the future. Formulate network modernization plan Since the modernization plan was put forward in 2017, the US Army has continuously accelerated the pace of network system construction, successively issued the tactical network modernization strategy, the US Army network modernization roadmap and the US army modernization strategy, and made it clear that the network is one of the six modernization priorities. The U.S. Army proposed the overall goal of streamlining the network, simplifying the operation process, improving reliability and mobility, and effectively responding to threats, as well as the tasks of creating a unified network, developing convenient mission equipment, enhancing the interoperability of joint forces, and improving the survivability of command posts. In October 2021, the US Army released the unified network plan, which aims to integrate various modern network resources and share information and data. Accelerate design architecture In order to realize global multi-dimensional connectivity, the US Army has specially designed the network architecture layer, transmission layer and protection layer. At the architecture level, the US army uses the advantages of various models to establish a zero trust security architecture. At the transmission level, research and develop tropospheric transmission equipment, high-throughput over the horizon radio, small multi band satellite communication terminals, and promote rapidly configured commercial equipment. At the protection level, focus on specific security requirements, realize multi-level protection, and improve vulnerability supervision, network attack and defense and anti-interference capabilities. The terminal can switch freely between the tactical network and the Internet to realize random insertion, convenient connection and integrated operation and maintenance in land, sea, air, space and electromagnetic fields. Integrating intelligent technology and algorithm The US army uses big data, Internet of things and artificial intelligence technology to continuously expand its decision-making cognitive function. In terms of network power spectrum visualization, by associating with electromagnetic detection equipment, focus on electromagnetic signals in a certain area and multi-dimensional space, and maximize the simulation of realistic combat environment and opponent weapon platform. In terms of "grey zone" network monitoring, advanced network detection equipment is preset to identify the fuzziness of the network "grey zone", track possible security threats, and study and judge losses and impacts. In terms of network situation understanding and auxiliary decision-making, we use the network environment infrastructure of the command post, and use technologies such as big data, machine learning and cloud service to associate time, space and logical elements to provide auxiliary reference for command decision-making. Carry out a series of test evaluation In order to verify the adaptability and operational effectiveness of the unified network, the United States Army joint enterprises and functional departments carry out a series of test evaluations. At the individual soldier and terminal level, it focuses on testing the reliability of tactical tools and data, the reliability of intelligence data, and the feasibility of the tactical scheme to be selected, integrating it into the network mission and fusion plan. At the same time, it puts forward improvement suggestions, timely adjusts tactics and reduces soldiers' operational risk. At the unit and platform level, it focuses on testing whether the battalion level unit can provide continuous communication support for radio, satellite, commercial cellular network and optical transmission when the network is damaged, disconnected, intermittently interrupted or the bandwidth is limited, so as to coordinate with the allied or joint forces. At the brigade level, focus on testing the ability to develop operation and maintenance modes and new functional modules. The US Army will carry out pilot application and overall inspection on the combat team of the 3rd Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division, the combat team of the 1st Brigade and the 2nd cavalry regiment of the German Bundeswehr, carry out long-distance joint exercises with overseas multi domain task forces and security assistance brigade, and test the effectiveness of integrated tactical network, unified network and global agile transmission.
