Dawan District Youth: I want to be a "bridge" for Hong Kong and Macao youth to the mainland

2021-12-29

In 2018, after finishing my major in advertising at Jinan University, I followed my family's advice and returned to Hong Kong. When I first entered the workplace, I couldn't find a satisfactory opportunity. In the employment environment of Hong Kong at that time, the gold content of academic qualifications from famous mainland schools was not fully recognized, and many local jobs did not give me the opportunity to try. In 2019, after a series of storms, I suddenly realized that my opportunity and mission are on a larger stage. It was this idea that created me who struggled in Dawan District today. The experience of living between the mainland and Hong Kong shows me the "cognitive gap" between Hong Kong Youth and the mainland environment. One of the important reasons for this gap is that young people in Hong Kong lack the opportunity to understand the mainland. This situation has not only deepened the stereotype of Hong Kong Youth on the mainland, but also affected their youth in a wider world. Taking the university application as an example, many Hong Kong students have the idea of going to the mainland to study for a degree. However, a considerable number of people hastily give up their study plan at the step of collecting information - they do not know how to take the selection examination in the mainland or how to carry out targeted learning. This reminds me of myself in 2014. If Hong Kong students want to go to mainland universities, they have to take the joint examination of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. However, in Hong Kong's high schools, it is difficult for us to get the corresponding knowledge of preparing for the examination. At that time, I had to seek the help of so-called "professional" training institutions, but these institutions often charged high fees and the help they provided was not very reliable. Compared with Hong Kong people of the same age, I already know the mainland better. In contrast, it will only be more difficult for other young people in Hong Kong to go to the mainland for further education, graduation and employment. Following my own experience, I found the "mainland entrance education", a "breakthrough point" to enhance Hong Kong Youth's understanding of the mainland, which also opened a new situation for my career. After investigation and preparation, I reached a consensus with like-minded partners and decided to establish a higher education institution in the mainland. Just at this time, the outline of the development plan of Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Dawan district was released. For Hong Kong and Macao Young people who are willing to make achievements on a larger stage, the concept of "Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Bay Area" is full of imagination and charming. Therefore, we have decided to establish an education company in Guangzhou Nansha, the "geometric center" of Dawan District, and make full use of Nansha's resources in the fields of youth entrepreneurship and education to help outstanding young people from Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and even overseas study in the mainland. Of course, entrepreneurship will not be plain sailing. There are many companies, opportunities, competition and difficulties in Dawan district. Some partners can't stick to it, they will choose to leave. When parting is a foregone conclusion, we can only send blessings. It's hard for anyone to be selfless to start a business with friends. To this end, I am always grateful for the tolerance of my colleagues and friends. Between private friendship and public affairs, "Dawan District Youth" is our common identity. Working together towards our dreams has shaped a stable boundary between work and life for us. However, entrepreneurship is not all bitter. In the process of developing the market and overcoming difficulties, we have received a lot of help in the mainland market environment and learned a lot of valuable experience in Internet operation. Using online course management platforms such as "Gosling link", we can flexibly combine online course sales and offline activity management, which not only makes us realize the convenience of the mainland business environment, but also injects us the confidence to open up channels and become bigger and stronger. When dealing with course payment, I saw that many Hong Kong students learned to pay with wechat scanning code, and made friends with mainland students on their mobile phones. These "Dawan District style" lifestyles also show us the achievements we have made in "building a bridge" between Hong Kong and the mainland. To some extent, I chose to start a business in Dawan District precisely because the progress of Internet technology in the mainland has made me see the infinite possibilities of production and life. For Hong Kong's young people, only by broadening their horizons and keeping up with the times can they find a longer-term development direction for themselves and Hong Kong. Next, we plan to continue to deepen our Internet business and tackle short video content such as video numbers, so that Hong Kong Youth can get further education support in a more convenient way, which will not only help us carry out business, but also enable Hong Kong Youth to more intuitively see the progress and development of the mainland. At present, we are cooperating with relevant departments and enterprises in Nansha District to combine our study fields with their vocational training fields, and constantly enrich the skills of Hong Kong students in the mainland. In the long run, I hope to enlarge the social benefits of this cause, build our training institution into a complete Hong Kong and Macao youth talent chain, and create a mature template for the integrated development of Dawan district. If this template can be verified by the market, it can continue to transport talents for the construction of Dawan district. In this process, Hong Kong and Macao youth can also have a deeper sense of belonging to Dawan district. My career began with my confusion about the development prospect, and countless young people in Hong Kong and Macao have similar confusion. Our entrepreneurial efforts are not only contributing to the elimination of invisible "barriers", but also opening up broader prospects for our peers and the next generation. I believe that in this extraordinary era, the small efforts of our "Dawan District Youth" will not only build bridges connecting Dawan District, but also build bridges for Dawan district to the world.
